There is this strange looking plant growing in the yard really fast. Is it poisonous?

A type of thistle(cirisum)..i wouldnt eat it, they are variable with alkaloids...

If you want more info: its a spiny biannual herb, with small pink flowers growing on a spiny asterid inflorescence, and dispers seeds by wind similar to a dandelion.

I believe it is Cirsium vulgare.. common name spear thistle..very common in UK.

Thanks. It does look like dandelion except it's much taller. Now pink flowers are coming out.

You are correct. It is a Bull Thistle. They are extremely common here in CA.
