My lettuce was growing fine, until the other day I noticed it had gotten eaten down, and now all my lettuce plants are looking like this. Any idea what it could be and how to keep it away?

My best guess is either slugs or rabbits. For slugs, use diatomaceous earth sprinkled in a circle around the plants, for rabbits, hot pepper spray.
