I've got a couple of new photos from my bench this week.

After seeing Elaine's gorgeous Rth. Chief Sweet Orange, I rushed down to Palmer Orchids and picked this up last year

Lindsey; I purchased a (formally Pot.) Rth. Chief Sweet Orange from Hausermann's... hoping it looks as good as their image when blooms.

I've had my Chief Sweet Orange for at least 10 years now, and it has been a real joy. But I'm afraid it's still declining, and I may lose it in the next year or so. Glad to know they're still around and available. It's a powerhouse bloomer and was very vigorous for many years up until about 2 years ago.

Tonight, I'm featuring my 3 cork mounts of B. nodosa 'Big Jim' which was also one big, jumble-y specimen plant until I completely dismembered it a year ago. It's much happier now. The cage smells absolutely wonderful out there in the dark. I could only wish it was cool enough that I could leave the door to our bedroom open and have that perfume wafting in all night. I tried to hang all these together so we could see how many flowers there are, but of course they would not cooperate and face the same way for me.

Biding my time to begin moving orchids, over 200 of them. With almost 1000 plants in pots, orchids are all I have space for inside the equipment shed. Just doing that will be a chore. I hope we'll only get the perimeter of the hurricane. At least that will limit damage. It's tough working outside. I am building a large raised garden and went out at 7:30 AM to put paint on it. It took me an hr. to paint and then to clean up. I am wringing wet.

Gotta love a great plant like the Chief Sweet Orange! Thumbs up

Ken, keeping fingers crossed this approaching hurricane will be gentle to all of you! Hopefully by the time it moves north, it will be out to sea.

Yep, these are 3 showers a day times and the laundry piles get higher and higher.

Looks like you will be on the far left hand side of Isaias Ken, Crossing Fingers! for you.

Do you have yard cart to tote thos orchids?

The equipment shed is only 4' from the shade house, Alice, so it's simply toting the plants 2 by 2 to the shed. Not hard, just time-consuming. After going through so many hurricanes when living in Louisiana and Mississippi, I learned long ago that 24-36 hr. forecasts aren't of much use. I do hope you are right, and the hurricane does follow the predicted track, staying offshore. Being on the west side of the eyewall is a huge plus too. I'll certainly know more tomorrow.

I am so relieved not to have to do that chore. Hope the storm continues to track farther offshore. At least by Saturday you will have some wind and probably clouds to cool you off as you work, Ken. I remember being amazed how much cooler it was as the storm approached when we were doing our prep for Irma a couple of years ago.

It looks like my flight out of SRQ on Monday will be leaving as planned, too and I won't have to worry about my plants until after Marsh gets home the next Monday. Then I'll be on the phone giving him instructions, from cool and dry Utah if the next storm comes towards Florida.

My Paphopedilum rothschildianum hybrid is still open after nearly 2 months. That makes up some for having to wait 4 years for it to bloom!
