Anyone know the name of this garden flower? Also, any idea why they're all flopped over? last year they were shorter and upright. This year they're long and lanky and lay flat on the ground.

Possibly a Scabiosa. Maybe Scabiosa caucasica. My degree of certainty is very low.

It is Stokes' Aster (Stokesia laevis 'Alba')

It probably needs more sunlight than what it is getting.

Then the soil might be too rich and the plant has received more water than needed. This plant is drought tolerant and requires well drained & rather lean soil.

@pitimpinai, Green Grin! ok, I'm old and (still) blonde and it doesn't take much to confuse me but the two photos in our database have your name listed as the photo owner. If those photos belong to original poster @sj6x who started this thread looking for an I.D., why is your name shown as photo owner? Confused Confused Confused

Sorry, Lin.
After seeing this thread, I discovered that there was no photo of this plant on the data base, so I posted the op's photos there. I did give sj6x's credit for them under caption.
Since I was the one posted the photos, the web automatically affixed my name as the owners. I am not savy enough to link the photos to the OP as you did. Sighing!

@pitimpinai Just so you know, before transferring someone else's photo to the database, it's Always best to ask the photo owner for permission before transferring their image. As I learned a year or so ago, some members do not want other members moving their photos to the database. *Blush* Nowadays, I just "suggest" to the photo owner that I hope they will consider adding their pictures to the database. Also, it's a good idea to be certain that the photo belongs to the person who posted it to the thread because many people share images they've found on the internet and they may not be aware that they could be violating copyright law.

This is just a tutorial but I've uploaded a photo below an example of how to transfer someone else's photo to the database. When you select the photo to enlarge it you will see a blue icon at the bottom middle of the picture. When you select that icon, it will give you a prompt, asking which plant the photo belongs to and when you type in the name of the plant, it will post it to that database entry and the photo owners name will be associated with their picture.

Thank You! I am sorry. I ought to know better than posting other people's photos.
Thank you for the tutorial.
Much appreciated.

*Blush* I should have known better too but as I mentioned, I'm old and blonde and I just wasn't thinking. It took a couple of members letting me know in no uncertain terms that they never wanted me to put their photos in the database and after reminders, I realized that of course I should have asked first, so now I just suggest that they add their photos to the particular database entry. Green Grin!

Perhaps one of our database administrators @Calif_Sue or @zuzu will be able to change the photo owners name to show the correct owner/member name of sj6x?

It's definitely a white Stokes Aster. I've grown the "blue" ones for years. They like sun.

Yes stokes aster it is. Thank you. I did add compost this spring, so maybe that's why they're so long and lanky then?
