My irises that do the best here make lilac colored blooms. This year I have two seed pods, probably self pollinated. Do they need chill time before planting? How should I plant them? If it takes a long time to grow, remember that if nobody plants it, nobody has it. |

![]() There are varying methods that people use to plant and germinate their seeds. This a past thread about it. The thread "Starting Iris seeds...." in Irises forum I just let my seeds dry out for a couple of days after I collect them and then plant them directly into potting mix. In winter, the seedlings start to emerge. I am a novice at this and I haven't tried the soaking and chilling methods that others use. I have had good results depending on the potting mix used. Some of my friends have mentioned that they get a greater proportion of seeds germinating when they use potting mix rather than seed raising mix. |

WAMcCormick ~ ![]() ![]() I guess it depends on where you live. If you don't get a winter chill, it probably will help if you soak and refrigerate them. Some who have a long winter chill, just leave them out planted or in pots to break dormancy naturally. "Luck favors the prepared mind." - Thomas Jefferson |

Thanks for the big welcome and information on starting iris seeds. If it takes a long time to grow, remember that if nobody plants it, nobody has it. |
