He was always such a gentleman and so helpful to others.

Never a spring will come when I don't think of him as daffodils bloom.

RIP, Jack.

Yes, he was so helpful. He let me use his pics of L. pardalinum for my NALS presentation in Iowa. I don't grow it, but a friend a hundred miles north does. I hope everything was peaceful for him.

Thank you Connie. Yeah we had to put our 9 year old golden retreiver down yesterday. It's been really difficult for me. We decided to do it on Monday that it was time, so it's been a long week knowing it was coming.

We spent a good last few days with her.

What sad news. I almost met Jack in 2017 at the NALS Show, but I missed meeting him by just an hour or so. He was kind enough to leave some pollen for me at the front desk. He had a knack for beautiful evening lily photographs. He will be greatly missed here.

Dave, losing a pet makes a heart very heavy. I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you everyone. I'm honestly pretty tore up over my dog right now. Now than I thought I would be. Dogs have always been a weakness for me and this was our first family furbaby.

I'm going to miss all the things she did. She just did things that we didn't think we would miss. Scratching at the bedroom door to come in, a little bark talk thing she did. Nuzzle your hand with her snout to get someone to pet her. Her uncontrollable tail wiggle when she was happy or excited. Only got 9 years with her, but she touched my family in so many ways, and now things feel empty.

We gave her the best last week we could. Steak dinner, her last walk in the neighborhood, lots of her favorite vanilla ice cream and a day at the park before her final moments. I don't know what I'm going to do honestly.

Try to celebrate all the positive things you and the dog had together. Cry your heart out but know you didn't act in haste and did the right thing. All pet owners are forced to go through it and it doesn't get any easier with future endings.

.....
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

So sorry about your family member, Dave.

You did what is best for your dog...... and it is best for you, too.

Thank you for the kind words and thoughts everyone. Been rough. Dogs hold a special place in my heart. I love all animals, but dogs have always been a thing with me. And they always seem to like me too so it works out. I wish all our beloved pets could live longer lives.

MORE AND MORE BELOVED PETS ARE DYING TOO EARLY AND FROM SIMILAR DISEASES WE GET.
I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT THE FOOD PETS EAT WHICH IS CONTRIBUTING TO EARLY DEATH WHICH IS SIMILAR TO WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN EATING FOR DECADES.
AMERICANS ARE WAY TOO UNHEALTHY AND IT HAS MOSTLY TO DO WITH WHAT THEY EAT

@YCNAN, please don't type in all capitals. Also, your post comes across as tone-deaf and isn't really appropriate for this thread. If you want to discuss pet food, there are several pet-related threads in the Sandbox forum: https://garden.org/forums/view...
