Hello. Thought I should introduce myself. I'm an iris lover who has fallen in love with daylilies, so I've been lurking here for a while. Learning from you all.
My collection is growing rapidly - One of my new purchases is HOLD YOUR HORSES and I always feel that message is for me!

I've learned the hard way that the daylilies can't be planted out on the land with
the irises. The deer carefully nipped off all the buds the first year on those outside the fence! Inside the fence space is limited, so I have DLs in 5 gallon pots on the deck and enjoy watching their development up close. Also easier on my knees!

Here are just a few of
my blooms in 2020.

Desert Flame - love the color

- Watusi Warrior - in pot on deck

- Double Angels inspired an interest in doubles !

More in the future. Excited about recent acquisitions!

Jan Welcome! Valerie and I will keep you company since you're a newbie to the daylily forums. I hope you find daylilies more fun and addictive when you breed them. The more DL you have, the more you'll be breeding. I've made at least 100 different crosses this year (waaay over my breeding record). Big Grin

Welcome! Jan, you have found that the deer are also addicted to daylilies, so you will want to protect your beautiful investments. By all means, post pictures of any new acquisitions; certainly this time of year we want to see as many as possible before the season ends.

The Lily Auction is a dangerous place for my wallet! I just won (yesterday) Kindred Jewel, after stressing over choosing between KJ and Pink Extraordinaire. Then I see that there's a common ancestor in Chesapeake Bay!
The hot pink in the photo of Pink Extraordinaire really caught my eye. I often fall for exceptional photos! And color. Checking the database photos is often the decider.

There are so many daylily cultivars! If I try my hand at hybridizing (pollen-daubing)I'm inclined to think there's a lot of room to improve the form of doubles. Have recently acquired some promising ones.
Spring should be wonderful.
