Would anyone have a "Carol Amling Rose" bush that they'd be willing to sell? I know I'm looking for a needle in a haystack since this rose was developed in 1953, and most likely isn't grown much anywhere. My reason for wanting a bush, or even some cut flowers from that bush, is that it was named after my mother-in-law, Carol (Amling) Berning. She is turning 90 at the end of this October and I know it would absolutely brighten her day to have some of these to celebrate her 90th. Sadly, we don't have any of these rosebushes in our part of the country (IN). I've attached a screenshot from a year or so ago of the rose description, as well as a picture of it. If anyone could possibly help me I'd be most grateful!

I haven't found a local (U.S.) yet but found a place overseas that supposedly has it.

Thank you Amanda. My husband found that as well. Perhaps I'll email them and see if they have a US supplier. I appreciate you trying!

There are a couple places here in the US that do custom budding so you could email them and mention your interest in the rose and see if they can get it in or would be willing to anyways.

Hey Nancy, John Bagnasco is going to send me cuttings. I'd like to replace mine as well. Only thing is, my rose did not look quite like his. I think mine was not the correct rose. If Burling does not have it available now, it would likely be next yr, and the same goes for Peter at Freedom Gardens. He only ships in the Fall, so if he custom roots it, it will be Fall of 2021. If John sends me cuttings, it will also be next spring before the plant would be ready. I would suggest trying Burling first. If she doesn't have one available now, then I can go ahead and root one for you. Just let me know!!

John just emailed me for my address so he can send the cuttings. So I will get one rooted for you, and myself. If he sends me extra cuttings, I'll have some to share with others!! Will keep you posted!

Thank you much Beth and Amanda! John and I talked by phone yesterday. So great to talk with him, and what a wealth of rose knowledge he has! I'm eager to listen to his gardening radio show soon via FB.

And John confirmed he'd send you some cuttings Beth. Thank you for doing that for me. And I'm happy to pay for that. I'm super excited!

I know it's not possible to have a rose bush by my MIL's bday, but John said he'd try his best to ship me a small cluster of cut flowers in time! He also sent a lovely photo of it blooming that I'll print and give to my MIL.

You have all been so very kind and helpful. Thank you! Wish we lived closer so we could have tea together.

I'll keep you all posted of any further developments. Happy gardening!

Nancy, I just want to update you on the cuttings John sent to me. They were pretty small, but he sent about 6 of them, and it appears that 4 may have rooted! According to my notes, I potted them up October 23rd. It will likely be into February before I will know for sure if any made it. I will let you know when I know for sure!

Beth, Thank you much for the update. So those cuttings are about 2 months old, right? Grateful to hear that at least 4 of the 6 are surviving thus far. I've attached a photo of me with my MIL back in October when I gave her some of the roses for her 90th bday (compliments of John Bagnasco!). My MIL was overjoyed and just couldn't believe those were "her" roses. Smiling

You are so kind to do this Beth, and my whole family is so thankful.

Wishing you a Happy New Year!

Oh you are very welcome Nancy! Yes the cuttings are about 2 months old. I sure hope they continue to do well and eventually do take root. They are rather tiny, but I had good luck with tiny cuttings last Fall, so they should make it. I will keep you posted! And how wonderful to the see the beautiful lady the rose is named for!! I'm so glad John was able to send her at least a few blooms for her birthday!

Happy New Year to you and Carol and all your family!!

Annie, if you are talking about John's gardening show, it's called Garden America. It's a radio show, but he streams live on Facebook on Saturday mornings I believe.
