Now let's look through some wonderful roses by Dr. Griffith J. Buck. Dr. Buck spent much of his life working to hybridize hardy, disease-resistant roses at Iowa State University. Sadly, his work was tremendously underappreciated. His roses did not receive widespread recognition for their beauty and performance until after his death in 1991. Here's my personal favorite among his offerings, Distant Drums -- a true beauty with a mystical, everchanging palette! ![]() ~Evey =) "Grow where you are planted." - My gpa |

I ordered a Blue Skies from Roses Unlimited (I *think* from them!) for this year and I really am anxious that they'll look like the picture! I can't wait! Does it have a good scent, too, like Blue Girl? I love my Blue Girl... what can I say, I love the "mauve" family!! Beautiful roses! Like always! Roses are one of my passions! Just opened, my Etsy shop (to fund my rose hobby)! http://www.etsy.com/shop/Tweet... |

I love Bucks roses! A lot of people do not realize that most of them were bred from Hybrid Tea roses. I went through a Buck phase when I bought a ton of them. Oh how I loved them but they didn't like my no fuss gardening style and rural Z5 growing conditions. Sure they would survive the winters but most didn't thrive To be honest I think they are over rated for their toughness and for my growing conditions, they were'nt anymore vigorous than say Hybrid Tea roses rated for Z5. Only 2 stood the test of time...Applejack & Prairie Princess although PP has petered out the last couple of years. Applejack is a 5 x 5 shrub and pretty much disease free. Freckles is one I really love! Its on it last legs. :( |
