I took this picture on the Hilo side of the big island of Hawaii. The flowers are thick and have a waxed look to them. Can you tell me what it is?

Hi MITbyDawn, Welcome!

It does appear that you've started 3 separate, yet identical threads in search for the identification of the plant in your photo:
November 28: The thread "What is this?" in Plant ID forum
November 29: The thread "What is this?" in Ask a Question forum
December 6: The thread "What is this?" in Ask a Question forum

The plant has been identified as Kahili Ginger (Hedychium gardnerianum) and your photo is showing the fruit. Here's another member photo from our database for comparison to your image:

This member photo from our database shows what the blooms look like:

If you come back to the Home page, your threads are always at the top when they receive replies. If you want to look for them again after viewing them, go to your profile by clicking the blue person icon top right in menu bar and then clicking to see posts you have made.

This may also be a case of the phone browser(assuming a phone) re-submiting the exact same post upon return to the site as it's an exact duplicate text. We see those quite often.
