Hi, I transplanted these 2 irises from my old house that had never bloomed before and I guess that was good for them because they both did this summer. But I've been having trouble finding leads on what they may be...

They have about the same shape and height but one of them is a bright magenta and the other is more of a light blue amethyst. My computer kind of washes out the colours on my screen so I'll try and post an equivalent along with them.

If they get washed out the colour is in between these two:

I only got one good picture of the other one

These are the closest shades I found to the actual colour:

I know I'll probably not get an exact ID because there's so many but I'm hoping to get a vague idea if I'm lucky. Crossing Fingers!

Ruby: Sorry I can't help but I did want to tell you those color swatches are a great idea.
I think the people who grow Irises are about as special as the flower itself!

It's no problem! Thanks Thank You! , I find sometimes different computers or phones kind of wash things out or enhance the colours so I just wanted to make sure people would have a clear idea of what the actual colour. Smiling

Hi Ruby and welcome to the iris forum! Welcome!

Both of your irises look like old historics. Their colors are very common colors and it is very unlikely they could be identified. They might not even be registered cultivars--just unknown seedlings. But still quite pretty. I'm glad they are now blooming for you. Smiling

The second one looks very similar to an iris my mom grew, which I now have, and I call it "Mom's Blue Noid" (noid = no identity). It has a wonderful grape fragrance! Smiling

You could try looking through the website below for some POSSIBLE ideas, but as others on this site will tell you, you really have to purchase a known iris and grow it side-by-side to the unknown and compare the two to identify it.

A few possible matches to your second iris that I found were: Harbor Blue, Great Lakes Blue, El Capitan and Violet Harmony.

Yeah that's what I thought, maybe they are noids seedlings that developed together because they are very similar... Thinking The possible matches do look like they could come close but it is hard to tell without seeing a side by side or them having any distinct features smh. Thanks for looking it to it though! Thank You!

Your pink one has similarities to 'Miss California'.. although MC has a bit more of a darker shading on the hafts than your pictures show.

Take a look at 'Chivalry' for the other one.. Here are a range of colors between freshly opened flowers, my camera and cell phone .. I'm looking at the shape of the falls, beard color, and haft markings... My camera is pretty good with blues... cell phone... not so much (last picture). You didn't say if you took the pantone colors out to your actual flowers or were going from memory of photos.. I've found both tend to be unreliable with me (especially the memory.. it's what it is Hilarious! ).

'Great Lakes' is a parent of Chivalry, and also worth considering.

Thanks for looking into it! Thank You! The colour of mine and 'Miss California' do look similar but its beards are solid yellow, when mine seems to fade to a pale yellow/white. For the other one I'd definitely have to look into those you mentioned, they're both similar enough Thinking . (The colours were after it opened but I should have taken more information down.... I only started to look into it out of curiosity as I'm trying to find room for my 2021 order Hilarious! )

I wonder if your magenta beauty could be 'Dreamcastle'?

'Lavanesque' is a child of 'Dreamcastle', and also looks similar.

I'm going more by the pantone sample than the photo, but both irises look like nice possibilities? I don't recognize your blue iris, but I'm smitten with it. It looks a bit like 'Great Lakes'... is it tall like GL? The beard of your iris looks lighter in color, though.

Thanks for sharing the photos,
