I love HBB. A real stand out in my garden. And makes a beautiful clump. I'm just happy I bought her in 2017.

Anyone in zone 8B growing this one? Looks like a great garden plant. Some dormants do well here, some don't.

Larry

I grew this one for years in my zone 7 and it had no trouble taking the heat of summer or freeze/thaw all winter long. It was a splendid daylily that I dug over and over again to sell and share and it performed wonderfully. Looked just like the clump shots shown and was a blooming machine in my garden, too....loaded with buds. A professional landscaper noticed all the daylilies in my garden one day and stopped by. And after I showed him around my garden and he was obviously bowled over by the variety of things he had never seen before, I asked what was his favorite. And he pointed to HER BEST BLOOMERS. REALLY deflating since I'm a hybridizer and my garden is mostly my own intros and seedlings (!!!!) I dug it on the spot and gifted it to him as it was a good grower and I had plenty! All my visitors loved it!

Not really what I was planning on adding this year, but with that recommendation, I think it has to go on my want list!

I had it, but planted it too close to the curve in the driveway and the propane truck took it out. I loved the color and it bloomed really well, I will probably replace it some day

I see it's out of Dragon's Eye, which is very rusty for me here. Has anyone had trouble with rust on HBB?

I'm noticing none of the responses are from a norther zone. I'm wondering if there is a reason for that?

Coincidence, I think, Tim. The hybridizer is from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and quite a few of the photos in the database were taken in cold zones. The Lenington All-American Award that this plant won is an award given to plants that perform well in many zones. It's a great honor bestowed on plants that get glowing reviews wherever it is planted. I think some of our northern members are out shoveling snow!!

Thanks, Davi. I hope all is well with you. I've always loved the color, and one time I bought a piece, but it was planted right before one of those nasty polar vortex winters. I think I've finally nursed it back to two or three fans last summer, but have yet to see it bloom. I'm hopeful for this summer.

HBB is a good grower here in my northern garden. Here the bud count is 21 on 4 way branching, about as good as any one gets in my garden. It reaches a little less than registered at 25" and blooms mid to late season here about a month- end of July until end of Aug.. I have been growing it since '15.

HBB is a new plant for me. I got it last year from another member. It bloomed last year and is blooming again this year. I have it in a pot with a somewhat aggressive Johnny Jump-Up. I will probably need to move it this fall so that it has less competition. So far it has only bloomed a handful of times. I need to build a raised bed just for smaller daylilies so that I can see what this plant can really do. I have very high hopes for it!
