COVID has raised havoc with the post office. If one employee tests positive, all other employees must be quarantined. My post office was manned by temporary employees for two weeks including route drivers recently. It's complicated! |

Maybe give the local USDA a call. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. |

Pam, Glad your seeds from me look good. Hopefully, you will get some wonderful seedlings. I wouldn't be too hard on the Canadian seller. This has been a real challenge this season getting all the seeds to their new homes. Like I said, I still have a package that has been out over a month. Because of excessive state of Illinois fees, I didn't do any overseas sales. I can't imagine what a nightmare those would have been. I hope you eventually get everything you ordered! |

Pam, I hope you get your seeds soon! BTW, yours from me are going out tomorrow. Steve, I would like to ask what the regulations are regarding shipping daylily seeds to Canada. I know I would have to fill out a customs form but is there anything else I need to know? I am selling on the classifieds here on NGA and have a Canadian customer. It would just be a small bubble mailer. Thanks for your expertise! ![]() |

I have had no problem receiving seeds from the U.S. or sending seeds to the U.S. I have received and sent many envelopes of seeds. I think the mail is just really slow now and things are taking longer to get through customs, as well. When I fill out the customs form I just mark the contents daylily seeds. Celeste, Shipping to Canada is very simple. Just fill out the custom form completely and you're all set. I would go through the post office with Canada shipping. They seem to have the simplest form. I use the padded envelope, and it runs around $11.00 or so. You will need to indicate how many daylily seed packets are shipping, value and that they are a US product if my memory serves me well. For some reason, my shipments to Canada this year went faster then ever?! Good luck! |

I don't get it. I sent a guy a check on Dec 7th, and my credit card bill on the 15th, and neither of them have been delivered yet, but I ordered some special batteries for my cordless phone last Monday and they were delivered Friday. My cable bill arrived after just short of a month, but my Christmas cards made it.... When I have a tracking number, seems like almost anything that goes through Warrendale Pa gets stuck for weeks, and I am guessing that is where your seeds are at! |

I think Pam means that Customs has intercepted her seeds for inspection. If they fail inspection, they will be destroyed. Fingers crossed for you, Pam, that they allow them through and do it quickly. ![]() Find & share great deals on gardening items on the NGA Garden Deals Forum! Looks like this was the chicago post office. Paper inside says Unknown seeds....even tho there is a paper filled out by seller stating they are daylily seeds. It then says its violation 7 CFR 319.37. It THEN says...material removed and destroyed ....O I want to type something I cant. Ill just say...butt wipes at the post office. It then goes on to say material not authorized entry....phytosanitary certificate mssing and Missing seed analysis certificate. What get me is they had time to do all of this, tape it back up and end it along. I know nothing about shipping rules, and Im sorry this happened, wont order from canada again, but its the post office that has me tweeked. It would have been alot less trouble just to return the seeds to sender. |

The small lots of seed import permit is free, lasts three years, and can be applied for online via the link I gave above. The Post Office won't likely want to pay for a phytosanitary certificate or a seed analysis (which you don't need with the small lots of seed import permit). Seeds must be labeled with the scientific name of the genus at minimum. I've heard of this happening before and the seeds were destroyed but from what other people say most get through. I wonder if they have become more vigilant about seeds because of all those mysterious and unsolicited packets that were being sent to people in North America or else you just got "lucky"! |

I have held a shipment of seeds to Canada since before Christmas because my friends at the local Post Office that I use say Canada is CLOSED to incoming shipment from the USA. They think that it is because there is soooo much COVID-19 in the United States, but admit that there has not been any official word of explanation. I agree with DaviJK that the USPS has been a mess since before the election. Most of my seed shipments have taken much longer than usual to get to their destinations. I have never had a problem shipping to Canada so long as I carefully fill out the customs form that goes with it, and declare that it is "Clean" daylily seeds---H. fulva. I have never had anything shipped from Canada, so I can not remark on that except to say that maybe the US Customs is more stringent in it's requirements. I will hold the Canada shipment a while longer. I do not want it sitting in some US Customs office on top of a heat radiator, or freezing in an unheated warehouse somewhere. |
