I dunno, I don't think I like that structure when it is not inherent to the species. And I thought that was a big no-no in the lily hybridizing world. I suppose though, that if you had secondaries that gave it some form, than maybe...

Picture this one as an umbel without the central stem: that could be nice.

I guess it depends on what your aim is. For something I would have in my garden, that's not the inflorescence I would look for in seedlings. However, if I wanted something I could use in a vase or as cut flowers for myself or my family, then I can see how that structure could be very useful.

Actually my aim in this cross was to study the relationship of physical plant structure/form and flower color/form to the contributions of the pod and pollen parents (the 70%-30% relationship). It was a fun little experiment. That said, I don't think it is something I would use to further some specific goal. I don't see anywhere to go with it. I like that it has big flowers and Joshua is right, it would be good in a vase. Unfortunately I find it very difficult to cut any of my lilies. They seem pretty happy (except for this year) living the natural life outside.

Some history about Stunning: if I remember correctly the original Yellow Blaze group is in its lineage.

At first I thought the four petals was just a one time anomaly. But see the other unopened bud in the pic? It has four petals, too. And it opened like this:

We'll have to see what happens next year.

Nice group of lilies Rick. An array of different spotting/speckling, orientations and forms. Lilies are just about done here, closing up shop a little bit earlier than usual. On the plus side, it gives the seed pods a little more time to develop before the freeze hits.
Thanks for sharing your beauties.

'Black Beauty' hybrid pod full of seeds but I can't tell you if there is embryo or not. Do you see anything?

Too young for any of us to see in a pic, but if it has been about 35 days since pollination, I think that's about when you can pop an embryo out for ER ( embryo rescue), and you should be able to find them if they are there. If you have any other seed pods (that would definitely have embryos) that you can sacrifice, I would suggest looking at them first, so you know what to look for in the Black Beauty pods. As you probably remember from previous discussions here, BB is known for its production of nice fat pods with nothing viable in them.

Looks like an interesting cross Anthony. Most of my lilies burned to a crisp this summer so I'm totally ready to see lily blooms!

i always thought it was neat how an embryo is light colored when you look at the seed, and then dark colored when you candle it.

I think that's going to be my trick for Halloween this year, when the wee ones come to the door for tricks or treats. Green Grin!

No tango pattern at all. Sometimes that happens. A nice one, nevertheless. Thumbs up
