This is a garden.org website question. In all my entries to this site to date, there has been a single field on the upper right of the home screen where you can enter the plant name immediately upon entering the site. For some reason, that area has disappeared and there is no box....it would always be above the daily popular photo. Did I do something with my main page (which I don't know how I could have changed it), or can someone help me get that invaluable tool back!!!! It was so fast to enter and look up a certain plant! Sorry....I know this isn't a 'garden' question but don't know where else to go for help....ugh!

@dave or @jon - has the site-wide search field suddenly been removed? It's not appearing for me either.

The search feature has also disappeared from our tree-mail inbox pages.

Hey guys!

It disappeared because I noticed Dave (or one of the admins, I just assumed it was him) updated the website. Just click on the little magnifying glass while in your tree-mail inbox and that should solve the problem.

Thumb of 2021-01-20/KFredenburg/7e1d54

This should pop up:
Thumb of 2021-01-20/KFredenburg/6d29ad

Click on the magnifying glass wherever on the site, and it should give you a search bar.

Hope this helps! Smiling

Thanks, Kim. Doesn't work for my purposes. The magnifying glass doesn't search for a word in my tree-mails. It searches the entire site.

Yes, I think it's because you actually have to be in your tree-mail inbox. For example, if you're on the homepage and you click on the magnifying glass, it will search the entire site. But if you're in your tree-mail inbox and then you click on it, it will bring up the search bar for your t-mails.

I'd like it very much if the search bar that was traditionally at the top of every page returned.

Followup to this: most people are aware that this site is a complex piece of software that was mostly written entirely by me. I am constantly making updates to it, several times a week. Since May of 2016 I have uploaded 3,481 "commits" to the code (a commit is a package of updates). That's an average of 2 per day and some of these commits are pretty large, some are very minor. Most are not visible to you but only change internal pieces of the site.

I don't generally pre-announce updates to the site, but if you ever notice a change that was unwelcome to you, then you are all very much welcome to voice your concerns in this forum and they will be given consideration, just like this one has. If people have a strong opinion about something, I'm always willing to do what I can to satisfy those desires.

Thanks Dave. I think we all had in the back of our mind that an update was made, but were concerned that maybe we had inadvertently done something wrong to change the appearance and functionality of the site from our perspective. Appreciate your feedback explaining what happened. Best wishes to you and your family for a good 2021.

On the subject of recent changes (and perhaps useful as feedback) I like the navigation links that now appear in the text above images in the database and pages in the forums, and I'm enjoying the changes to the way photos are displayed in the forums. I'm not sure what happened there, but they seem bigger and better.

New images posted in the forums do have larger thumbnails - just noticed that today. Haven't seen any new links in the plant database, though - if you mean links to the vendor sites in the image captions, they've been there for a while.

Yes, I noticed that any image uploaded in the forums is bigger and has a much wider touch range, which is better IMO.

The top of this page (if you click "more photo details" and go to the full size image)

looks like this to me, with clickable text connected by arrows. I'm not sure if this is how it looks on a phone or tablet.

Thumb of 2021-01-23/Baja_Costero/15fb77

Now that I look more widely, this sort of thing seems to be widespread on the site. I like.

Ah, now I see what you mean - the updates to the navigation header. Yes, it is quite useful.

I'm not entirely sure that my issue is due to any "reworking" of the site, but I am finding that I can no longer access any of the navigation on the header, while using my iPhone. The little "home" button responds, but nothing else. Blinking Shrug!
