I would not do anything with it. It is too early and the only result would be further damage to the foliage. If it recovers ok, if not there is always next year. A pause in the blooming may produce better blooms next year.

Thanks Jerry. These new peonies are a challenge for me. My one old pink one just appears when it is suppose to.

That is really nice. I think I may have a similar one of pinkish white with red flecks inside the petals.

Julia what a pretty pink! And Jerry your peonies are off to an excellent start. Still with some snow piles here but things are slowly coming along. I grafted some tree peonies last year, for the first time. I'm curious to see what comes of them, but of course it is in the snowiest portion of my yard. Waiting....waiting....

I've had that pink one for over 7 years and I never kept tags so I have no idea what the name is but it does put on a great show each year. Large blooms too. Hopefully the new ones I got last year will, in a few years, put on a similar show Smiling

Mine was a Lowe's or Walmart "guess the correct name" but it also puts out huge blossoms and stays nice for some extra time.

Update on my potted 'Gay Paree'. Hasn't grown much more but responding to sunlight and appears to be a survivor. Lucky for me since I broke the first rule in planting peonies and put the main plant in a small hole. It stayed filled with water over the winter and the new eyes either drowned or froze or both. They appeared to be rotten and pulled off easily. I trimmed one of the roots and white was showing so I put it into a pot also. I will have a 'Gay Paree' one way or the other.Thumb of 2013-04-03/Oldgardenrose/0597bf

Spring is bursting out here in California. This is my third tree peony to bloom over the course of the last 4 days.

This is one of my most fragrant peonies.

These are the more advanced peonies. They are growing fast now that they are late and the weather is warming.Thumb of 2013-04-07/Oldgardenrose/478c41

Thanks, Julia.
Jerry - your early scout should be opening up any day now.

Here is my first herbaceous one to bloom - Burma midnight. I received it in Oct 2012, and had it in a shallow tray until I put in it the ground in February. Being in the tray first must have been a lot warmer and it got an early start. Most of my herbaceous peonies don't open up until after my tree peonies are done.

Julia, your pink peony blooms are just divine, which one is it? I love the double blooms, although they can be a pain, and flop too much.

Dianne, your tree peony, and Burma Midnight blooms are gorgeous.

Jerry, I'm glad your peonies are doing so well, you must truely have "magic soil". Again, I've never seen peonies with so many stems, and your fernleaf is full of buds.

My Gardenia, Bowl of Cream, and a noid have really taken off, I'm starting to see the bloom color come through on the noid. Bowl of Beauty to the right of the noid has also grown well, thanks to the warm weather we've been having the last few days.

It is refreshing to see all the growth, both in Georgia and California, when the rest of us are just completing the Spring snow melt. Be sure and post the pics when they bloom.

One of the greatest things about the "season" is going through everybody else's season too. Enjoying the blooming and progress of yours as mine are barely waking.

My Shima Nishiki has buds that have been slowly expanding this week. I'm looking forward to the blooms.

Yesterday we had a break in the rain so I was able to walk the garden and see what is peeking up from the new ones I planted last year.

The only one I'm not seeing anything from Victoire de La Marne. Sad It will be awhile before anything blooms, if at all, this year so I can tell if I got the right ones LOL. Raspberry Sundae got burned a couple of times but it still keeps growing.

Julia, I'm glad you're seeing some peony growth. These plants are truly resilient, and will do just fine.

I came home from work today to find that my Shima Nishiki had finally started opening. Last year I had 1 bloom, this year I have 3. It's barely a foot tall, and the bloom are being hidden by the iris blooms. I can't wait for this tree peony to get taller.

Annette - isn't it wonderful how tree peonies bloom so early in the season? Next year, your Shima Nishiki would probably double in height. It is a lovely color.

Here is my white one - I posted it on the other thread, but I like it so much that I am posting again. Big Grin

I bought my first tree peonies at Pay Less (now known as Rite Aid for the past 10-15 years) and they were labeled as white, pink, red, etc. tree peony so I have no clue as to the variety.

6 of my herbaceous peonies have now opened. Besides the Burma midnight, here are some of the others. Most of the early bloomers are ones that I planted last year so they are rather small plants. The photos are taken after I get home from work so they are starting to close back up.

Your tree and herbaceous peonies are just gorgeous Dianne. Keep posting those beautiful blooms. I will have to check our Rite Aid stores here, I've never seen them sell peonies here.
