We came from here
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in January 2021 🍾🎉🎊" in Orchids forum

Today is February 1! Here in NJ we are in the midst of a Nor'easter with heavy snow falls. But, the Galanthus nivalis are surely just waiting to pop up soon..... Whistling
Ok, let me start with Laelia anceps, still putting on a pretty show. Much enjoyed.

Phrag Allison Strom opened a nice bud this week. This is a kovachii hybrid, I bought it years ago as a small seedling.

Den Specio-kingianum 'Madame' keeps on blooming, the nice scent is very similar to that of kingianum

Wonderful, wonderful Show Ursula!!

At first with the Phrag. Allison Strom, I am thinking, where did the Phrag. kovachii go?!?!? And then when I see an image taken back away from the plant, it hits me!!! It is really a pink color AND just look at the size of that flower!! Holy bovine 🐮!
Gorgeous! Thumbs up

And Pleurothallis ornata, what a little cutie that is. Fantastic!! Good things certainly come in small packages. Lovey dubby

Yes, regarding the pink color, it was quite sunny this week and I had trouble getting the proper light. I delete a bunch of pics which were too dark. The flower IS huge! I paid 50 bucks for that baby that time! Rolling my eyes. Smiling

Yes, the Pleurothallis looks all dressed up for the weather, dripping with icicles.

We're getting the tail end of your Nor'easter storm here too, Ursula. It thundered and rained in the night, and now it's blowing a cold wind out of the north. We will be cold for 3 more days, it appears. I'm doing the old "orchid shuffle" this afternoon, and covering all my tender babies up out in the hoop house tonight, tomorrow and Wednesday as well. Thursday it is back to warm Florida weather.

I have a few buds starting to pop and I'll get to enjoy them in the house, it seems. This is a big purple Phal I mounted on a wreath form, along with a bunch of mini-Phals. They are all in spike, and the big one is starting to open. I'm thrilled to see it as I must have missed it's bloom completely last spring when I was away.

Yep, Elaine, I'll be moving all my seedlings, newly rooted plumeria, and plumeria in the process of rooting, back into the shadehouse or the equipment shed. I sure hope this is the last time I'll have to do this. The weather channel says that our "feel like" temperature in the morning will be in the 20's. I assume, since it's getting even colder Wed. and Thur. morning, the feel like temperatures will be even worse.

Hope not, but Wednesday is predicted to be the coldest night here @ 39deg. I'm assuming that's because the wind will die down some.

That makes the "feels like" temperature higher during the day, but the nights get colder because the still air lets the cold settle instead of mixing the air. I got an extra sheet of frost cloth on sale, and think I may deploy it over the hoop house on Wednesday as an 'insurance' blanket to keep things warm. If it's sunny during the day the hoop house does accumulate lots of warmth, anyway. We shall see.

Gusty winds here. This was my next door neighbor's wax myrtle. Not happy that we have to clean t up but I hated that tree, it suckered and dropped seeds that all germinated on our side of the fence. It flattened some Phaius but the leaves were all fried from the cold anyway and needed to be cut back.

Yes, we had days in the high 70's all week now it is blustery outside with a forecast of 38 for the morning. Brrrrrr It is so damp I believe it feels colder than that snowy weather you are having.

Great start to the month, Ursula!
Nights in Fl. are a bit colder than coastal So. Cal., but days are about the same. Inland is colder, of course. My orchids all stay in place...under cover of awnings, trees, etc. outside. Greenhouse is not heated, but a fan runs 24-7, so staying in low 40s.

This could have been in last month's thread except I kept forgetting my tablet at work. SWMBO loves spidery orchids. It's a Sunset Valley Orchids Dendrobium that spends the summer in our shade house and goes into an unheated greenhouse for the winter.

Very interesting plants that you have there CCP! Very cool.

I believe that the first one has Dendrobium tetragonum in the background. I know that Ursula grows that species and I think that Carol does too if I am not mistaken. It produces these spidery like colorful blooms with vegetative growth similar in appearance to your plant. What a neat little plant that is!!! Thumbs up
