I just moved to the USA from the UK and wish to grow Physalis peruviana like I did back home. I don't really understand zoning honestly. I'm based in southern Illinois, which the internet tells me is zone 6a. Upon googling the only information I'm getting is about the ground cherry (Physalis pruinosa), which is not what I'm looking to grow. Can I grow Physalis peruviana in my zone? Are there any special arrangements I need to make other than a mostly shady corner. Does it need to come inside in the winter or will the roots survive an outdoor winter?
Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated!
