I found one reference to using it to genetically add hairiness to a Brassica crop, to avoid bug danage.

Very little to be found in basic searches- did not find where it is native.

(OP may already know this, but letting others know)

The wild varieties are mostly in Sicily. The reason I am looking for this is too cross breed it with Brassica olercera. Thank you.
