What is the matter with people on these forums that ask for help
I am delighted to help others with iding mystery plants.
However sometimes appreciation is completely under whelming..often non existent.
Sometimes I wonder if they have even found /bothered to read my answers.
I am not a robot!
A little thanks goes such a long way!
Even a simple thumbs up would help...show me they have seen my answer.

Sorry.
Having a bad day.
Rant over.

Totally ok. Remember you still have the satisfaction of helping someone and trying to pass on your knowledge, whether they appreciate it or not. Still, a atta boy IS nice once and awhile. 😊
For myself, I think youre awesome! I tip my hat to you.

Well I , for one, am very glad you have you here. Since this site has become more and more international, your (and others) expertise is even more valuable. You and Daisy (and a few others) are the ones responsible for keeping this forum active, well-grounded, credible and sensible.
Thumbs up Hurray! Smiling I tip my hat to you. nodding

Some wouldn't be happy no matter what the answer was, you always have given an appropriate answer and knowledge.

Thank you everyone for nice kind/remarks.
Simply dire, dark, depressing day here in Perthshire Scotland.
Had to resort to cleaning the house...a job I detest...would rather be out in the garden...tiny as it is.

Thank you Leftwood but Silversurfer is much better at IDing plants than I. I don't care if I get a thanks or thumbs-up but why rudeness? You want to see me leave a discussion fast? Be rude.

I try my best not to be rude but if someone else is, and they are expecting me to answer a question or make an ID for them, I just leave the conversation. They don't get their answers (at least not from me). Smiling

Silversurfer has shown a great amount of patience at times when I would have simply walked away. I do this for pleasure so its not worth the frustration of dealing with unkind people.

I empathize.
I think I know the impetus for this...
For my part, all I can say is that when a person is unappreciative, or, outright abusive I make a mental note never to respond to their posts ever again.
And, when I see someone who is called out for rudeness, and does not even make the slightest apology, they earn my eternal scorn.
Silversurfer, you have many friends here.

Rants are good sometimes to let off a little steam. I hope that the ungrateful responses (or lack thereof) and rude remarks are far outweighed by those who truly appreciate all the help given by others! Sadly, those who are ungrateful will be remembered as such and will soon find themselves alone and without help.

I'm an old gal and learned long ago that there are some people who just thrive on negativity and like to share that negativity to try and bring others down to their level. Folks like that are to be ignored and scorned.

Silversurfer, you are one of the most helpful members on this forum and many of us are very grateful for your input, advice and help. Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

I think sometimes people sign up as new members, then ask questions and after that they can't navigate their way back, a few days go by and they forget where they posted or find an answer somewhere else. I don't think they are intending to be rude or to disappear, but that is just the nature of the internet. What irks me is when I answer a question and the posts continue until someone else gives the same answer I did at the beginning and then they get 'credit' for it. Has happened several times. I don't post much anymore like I did at the beginning. I don't often address things with new members that only signed up to post, it's mostly a waste of time. Shrug! If they have several posts and look like they are still around I engage more.

I will still answer newbie questions. I think first impressions are important for them. I've often seen questions just sit here for hours, sometimes days without any answers. That makes me feel bad for them, so I often try to help, or address certain members I know have the expertise to help them.

I try to address aroid questions, since I grow a lot of those, but, what my pet peeve is, no one looks to see if there is already an answer to their question. There is a little box up in the right hand corner of every forum that was 'search garden, org'. Hell will probably freeze over before someone uses it.

This is why I stopped answering Monstera questions, especially about variegated Monstera NODES. There are a zillion threads on that, all basically saying the same thing. Why add another? For a while Fiddle Leaf fig was like that as well.

So I understand where you are coming from.

I think A LOT of people have no clue how to find their way back for the answers or even bother to come back for them. Glare There seem to be a few semi-regular ones that continually ask for IDs yet never mark the thread as solved or thank anyone, just go on asking for new ID's.
Life is too short, next.
But know this, even if they never come back, others come and learn, often I see an lD thread pop up with a new member comment, so it's still a worthwhile service you all do.
And I appreciate all of you!! You are a great bunch of sleuths. nodding

P.S I do my best weeding or house cleaning when I get frustrated with someone here! So that's a plus, right?!!
