I often use rubbing alcohol for pest control on my plants. Normally I use 70% isopropyl alcohol (diluted).

I've been having trouble finding isopropyl alcohol with the pandemic, and all I can seem to find right now is a rubbing alcohol compound. The ingredients are as follows:

- 95% Ethanol
- Camphor
- Denatonium Benzoate
- Diethyl Phthalate

Would this be safe as an alternative to the isopropyl alcohol? Or are some of those ingredients potentially harmful?
If safe, what would you recommend for a dilution?

I useIsopropyl alcohol all the time. I buy it as 70% and further dilute it to a 50-50 mixture with water.
For most insect problems, several applications may be needed.

That's usually what I do. Just wondering if the ethanol is a safe substitute. I haven't been able to find the isopropyl for months now.

I'll take a look. Just wondered because I already have bottles of the ethanol compound. Hilarious!

I wouldn't use the stuff with the additives. Use vodka or other hard liquior. Don't use beer or wine, the sugars encourage fungus and molds.

Okay. I'll stick to using the ethanol for disinfecting tools. Thumbs up
