That's One Colorful Cat!

Certainly in the running for the most flamboyant caterpillar! I believe this is a Spurge Hawk Moth (Hyles euphorbiae), a European species introduced to the US in an effort to control leafy spurge.

Cool banner Laurie!
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

I love this! What was the host plant?
edited Never mind, there's a reason it's called a spurge hawk moth!

Outstanding addition to the tributes in banner form to the various invertebrates we encounter in nature. Great, sharp, colorful detail I tip my hat to you.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You! for your kind words, likes and acorns. It was exciting to find this guy a few years ago. I don't recall the location, though. I think it was Colorado or Wyoming.
