Gold Rush

The title is a play on the name of this azalea cultivar, 'Klondyke'.

Here's the full version of the image.

There's a database entry for the cultivar
Azalea (Rhododendron 'Klondyke')

Beautiful banner Elizabeth!
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Gorgeous!
I am a strong believer in the simple fact is that what matters in this life is how we treat others. I think that's what living is all about. Not what I've done in my life but how I've treated others. ~~ Sharon Brown

Astonishing, Elizabeth! Blinking

I've grown several azaleas...white, pinks, reds, lavender...
but have never seen gold. Very pretty! Thumbs up
It really lives up to it's name. Smiling

Good article on differences between azaleas & rhododendrons,
highlights Klondyke.
https://www.gardenia.net/guide...

I haven't had success with Rhododendrons here, but have
had some beautiful azaleas, even in hanging baskets.

I found they did best in large shallow terracotta pots,
in soil amended with peat moss, where the roots grew
through the drainage hole into the subsoil,
even though it had a layer of pea gravel,
and the soil was packed & un-amended with a lot of clay.
Not ideal conditions, but worked surprisingly well.

Sorry to say, I haven't grown them in almost 20 yrs. Crying
But you have inspired me to add a few to our shade garden.
Better late than never! Smiling

@EscondidoCal requested, via tree mail, an enlarged view of the buds. As it happens, I'd previously uploaded such a shot to the database a little while back. Here it is.

and, as Cal originally requested, a crop of the bud portion of the banner shot

The response does seem like an effect of a 'gold rush'. I too, am very impressed with the unusual color. Great introduction to something new.
