It looks like an apple tree. How big are the leaves and flowers?

Don't think the leaves are crabapple, don't live there, but I think the first photo gives a reasonable idea about the size compared to everything else.

That's not really useful. The only scale are flowers and leaves compared to one another. My first thought when I looked at the first photo was some kind of Dogwood. But then thought the flowers look like apple flowers. Having a measure would help quite a bit.

Maybe your parents could also send some leaf photos?

Agree with Apple or Crabapple seedling - Malus sp.

Gonna have to plan a trip to New Zealand, so I can learn to differentiate Hoheria sp. from Rosaceae members...
