Oh I love your greenhouse,Ursula! Especially with the bright blue sky and the sun shining in, illuminating your spectacle 'Debbie'... gosh that's gorgeous! Aggregatum and the leptotes are no slouches either.
What a beautiful start to May!
A few new photos today from hot and humid Tampa.

From Patty or Elaine a loooong time ago, it's finally decided to bloom.

V. Motes Blue Yonder was really difficult to get the color right, it's more dusty grey in real life. This is its first bloom.

Nice ones, Lindsey. I have a couple of my Epi. radicans in bloom too.

Here's a couple of new bloomers. The Dendrobium is just a "baby-size" plant, so don't know why it's blooming. Perhaps this variety simply blooms on really young plants. The "blue" is blooming out of season, 4-6 mo. ahead of its usual blooming time.

Let me contribute one for May. This is Paphiopedilum Odette's Beauty. It is Paph. Odette's Blush 'Red Magnificence' X Paph. Grand Fred 'Dorsal Red'. This is another hybrid from Lehua Orchids of Hawaii.

Thumb of 2021-05-01/BigBill/bc4bf1

Blush is a great way to describe this flower and it's color. It photographs redder then it is but this guy is a little wonky from shipping. This is a big flower!! 10.4 cm. wide X 10.2 cm. tall. That's right around 4" for people metrically challenged like me! Rolling on the floor laughing
Base color is cream; dorsal is blushed burgundy, deeper basally, veined darker burgundy and is broad at 5.3 cm. wide. Petals are broad, 2.9 cm. Wide X 6.6 cm. long. Petals are profusely spotted burgundy with more towards the upper half.

Thumb of 2021-05-01/BigBill/64be20

Pouch same color as rest of flower but is creamier along the rim. Staminode same creamy color blushed green towards center apically.
I can't wait to see this on its next blooming. Flower is stately yet on a strong inflorescence that is not very tall. It just adds to the dominant presentation of the flower.

It is in my Paphiopedilum mix with a great root system and two new growths. It could bloom again in late summer.

My Bifrenaria harrisoniae opened a couple of blooms over the weekend. Nice citrussy scent.

Aside from the citrus scent, which must be lovely, I just love that pretty colored lip with the fuzz!

Since I'm leaving for a 'Nana visit' on Friday, I thought this would be a 'last gasp' picture of my Den. Fire Wings still covered in blooms, a little whiter than they were - but there is a new spike just coming along! Can hardly believe it.

Once those Fire Wings find their voice...they are wonderful bloomers, aren't they?
Ursula, your Bifrenaria harrisoniae is awesome! I don't think I've ever heard of this one. That fuzzy lip is so cool!

Aha! I finally had one bloom earlier than you, Ursula. My Bifrenaria harrisoniae bloomed last month and it's second spike is almost done. They do have a strong scent! Most of my Orchids we have in common are barely in bud when yours are blooming. These are lasting quite awhile indoors.

We're pretty quiet these days, aren't we? Everybody busy outside in their gardens.

I finally got a more accurate picture of this wonderful purple NOID Den. I've been trying less and less light and different colored backgrounds to try to get the dusky color to show up not so pink - turns out full, blazing sun shows it up best!

Thumb of 2021-05-05/dyzzypyxxy/725cd8

Another purple same shade almost exactly, so I shot the pic up towards the sky. V. Gordon Dillon X V. weirat not quite open, and obviously stressed by the hot, dry windy weather we're having. Blasting buds right and left, unfortunately. But at least I'll see a couple of flowers.

Elaine, it IS a nice shade of purple! Lovey dubby

Carol, and here I thought most blooming seasons are timed fairly close across the globe, I guess not! Smiling

I have been busy moving C&S and some misc outside, with lots of repotting in the process. Unfortunately night temps are again dipping into the forties F, so the Orchids have to wait another week.

Ursula, I am a bit jealous of your Spring weather. It was 94 here early afternoon yesterday and will probably be the same today. It has been blazing hot or sweater weather chilly here for the past month or so. Mild spring weather has been scarce.

It was 36 here this morning with cool temperatures through next week. Sniffing 70 degrees next weekend.

This past Sunday it hit 84 and yet look at the week thereafter.
Today's high 58.

Alice, looks like you may have had some rain from this current weather front. It's supposed to cool off for a couple of days behind that. I'm hoping it sinks far enough south to give us a bit of rain too. A little relief would be nice.

I'm heading to Utah tomorrow, happily escaping our heat and humidity here for a couple of weeks, at least. It's been really nice there, 70's and 60's and rain is predicted for the weekend. Cool weather is such a treat to a Floridian in summer. Cool nights, sleeping with the windows open is my favorite thing.

Gardening with no humidity is pretty awesome, too. I can stay outside in Utah nearly all day without overheating as long as I remember to drink enough. Unlike here, when you sweat there it actually evaporates and cools you off, like it's supposed to.
