Hello!
Can anyone tell me what is happening to my orchid? Not only is there a different growth but the colour is so different too!!!

This strange growth is actually quite common. It occurs in probably 3-5% of all Phalaenopsis orchids.
They are called keikies which are plantlets that form along the length of the bloom spike. They are flower buds that randomly produce a new little plant.
They will eventually have to be removed. When they have three or more roots, 3" in length or bigger, they can be potted up as individual plants.
Once in a while the bloom spike browns up and dies forcing immediate removal of the keikie but usually you can pick the time where you can choose when to remove it.
Young plants of colored Phalaenopsis ( non white flowers) often produce babies that have purplish hues. That comes from anthocyanin pigments that are responsible for flower color. It is not a cause for concern!
