I was trying to pull up all the daylilies introduced by Benz but can't seem to get it to work. Maybe we can't but thought to ask and perhaps I'm not doing something right. Thanks Julia Upstate NY Zone 6 |
Go to this page, click on "Search by characteristics," and enter "Benz" on the hybridizer line. The Daylilies Database |

It works beautifully, I use it all the time in the Sempervivum 'Search by characteristics'. |

There has to be something not working right. When you enter "Benz" you get a list, when you enter "BENZ" (all caps) you get another list.hmmm, can the two lists be merged? Julia Upstate NY Zone 6 |

Julia I get the same list using benz, Benz, and BENZ. Zuzu, I used your above link, but what is the path you used to get to that link? |
It is hard to find, isn't it? I had another window open, where I was looking up another daylily because of Julia's thread in another forum. Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Orchid Butterfly') When I clicked the "Daylilies database" link on that page, it took me to this page: The Daylilies Database Otherwise, you have to go to the list of custom databases on the main page of the Plant Database and click on Daylilies. |
I believe that the search is limited to a certain number so you will get something different each time you create a search. Dave will be able to confirm if that's true. |

Sue: Since it will only show X amount each time, how is it determined which one will show? Will be by year of registrations, Alpha or something else? Thanks for looking at this everyone. I thought I may be having eye trouble when the list kept changing each time I went back to redo the search. ![]() Julia Upstate NY Zone 6 |
It's like a Google search, random, at least that's how I understand it. Perhaps Dave will pop in here to further clarify it. You can narrow down the search by choosing additional selections, however, make sure you select within the upper daylily section and not the generic lower section. For instance, if you want to find red Benz daylilies, don't check off the Red in the lower bloom color section, you will draw a blank. The daylily database is based on how the intros are registered and listed with the AHS so you would have to type in 'red' in the color description section, keeping in mind that it will pick out any mention of the word red like red eye. |

With it giving a random list for the hybridizer, how will you know all that are in the database that belong to that hybridizer? Wouldn't it work better if it gave pages of plants so that all are listed? |
Okay, couple things: 1) The "Searching by characteristics" search (the one we're talking about here) displays results alphabetically. It does so because it's technically not a search, it's a browse. I know it feels like a search but it's not. 2) I have updated the code tonight. The previous limit was 100 and the new limit is 1,000. So I think that should probably handle all cases from here out. |

Oh that's great! Thanks Dave! |
Benz has been pretty active, 639 results found! |

Wow, he has been very busy. It is a Mr. Benz isn't it? |
yes, John Benz. He started a long time ago. There are other top hybridizers that have many more that that though! |

I can't even imagine the time put into that. |
