Andrea, that's good to know as I decide what to cull, myself. There are too many iris with good form and substance to give precious space to those that don't have those qualities. Thanks. I don't usually cull things after first year bloom, but I might make an exception with this one.

The brood X cicadas are thick on everything today. Mounds of shells are forming under our aged maple tree. And the holes where they are emerging from the ground are only about an inch or less apart. It's like someone took an aerator to the yard and garden. I am 73 years old and I have never seen the likes of this.

I am so glad that my two closest friends got to visit and see the garden yesterday, before the cicadas became this bad. As soon as it stops sprinkling out, I will try to get photos of this plague of cicadas. I know that they don't do any harm, but they sure are ugly!

I am convinced now, that if anything survives global warming, it'll be the cicadas! Hilarious!

My second yellow NOID. It's lighter than the earlier- blooming yellow rebloomer NOID, and has better form.

So do I. It's an NOID, but I'll keep it. I have never ordered a yellow iris, and yet somehow ended up with three yellow NOIDs. I'm going to be culling 2 of the three after this bloom season. I don't like yellows to be too saturated, because then I think they have trouble blending with the other irises. Just my opinion. This light lemon yellow is light enough to blend nicely. And the form is pretty. I wish I knew its name. Does anyone have a guess on that?

That yellow's shape is striking. Closest I've seen to it are catalog photos of Pride of Ireland (especially Schreiner's catalog photo.)

Some of my favorite irises this year were NOIDs that I never ordered.

Lynda, yes, the form is a perfect thing in my opinion. But, despite what the picture, taken in shade might suggest, there really isn't any chartreuse in it to inspire an Irish name. It's a light, very clear lemon yellow.

My last one to open bloom this year was Coastal Mist. It actually opened two days ago, but has not been worth photographing. Poor substance. It'll be among the ones I cull in a couple weeks in order to make room for ones coming.

Ok, I am playing with my new Lumix DLC FZ-300 camera. Had to figure out how to get a wifi connection going between my camera and the android notepad, and finally got a photo transferred from the camera to said notepad. This camera has decidedly crisper focus and higher resolution than the notepad camera that I have been using. However still could be better than this particular shot shows. I will work on it.

Here is a photo of a bloom from a patch that at least used to be LA Dororhea K. Williamson. Heaven only knows whether I should still be calling it that because it's the one patch in which I have not been good at keeping its seed from developing and falling.

Thanks, Tom. Still not as sharp as the way I had my old FZ-200 set, but I am still playing with the settings on this new camera. My avatar photo of the Seashell peony was taken with the FZ-200. You can zoom in on that photo to see what I am working toward with this new camera.

I am sure part of the problem is that I am older now, withh probably more hand-shake. There is onlly so much that image stabilization can do. Rolling my eyes. Shrug!
