Yeah, so I didn't make a map and my sharpie faded - lesson learned! I've fixed that problem. Not sure what this is so I'd like to hear opinions. FFO today in z6b Virginia. I took a pic of the interior to show any identifying features better. The beard looks to be tipped/ending in an almost white and I don't know if that's normal or from environmental conditions like cold temps. There are pale/white lines at the hafts/beard, it has what I would call rose beige crests and daffodil wings which made me think of Catch The Fever but it doesn't have purple based foliage (and it may be too dark anyhow). My pics are accurate to my eye but we have had terribly cold wet weather which is influencing things. So here's my list of what could be in this bed, plus two pics. I have other darks in my plant list but not in this part of the yard so I'm not mentioning them. Thanks if you can try to help!

Possible plants;
Catch The Fever
Firenze Red
Ruby Red Dress
Valentino (too much purple)
Or perhaps a NOID - regardless I really like it.

I don't know, but someone more knowledgeable could weigh in on this one. However, it is very pretty.

Well, it's definitely not Firenze Red, I have it and it's an older iris, which is nowhere near as fancy as yours - though it is quite dark.

Catch the Fever has a bright orange beard and the standards are darker than the falls - yours is the other way around.

And yes, I agree Valentino is more of a rusty red.

I don't have Ruby Red Dress, so not sure about that one. I had a look in the DB, but no luck.

It's possible that you were sent the wrong iris or maybe it is a gift or bonus iris? It looks modern and the colours are quite distinct, so hopefully someone recognises it. Crossing Fingers!
Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice!

I do buy a lot of iris from individual folks selling extras they have, so it's quite possible it's a mislabel. I like it so it's not any loss to me if it is...

I'd say this is closest. But take some close up picture of the beard when it's not shaded. Also contact people you got it from and see what they think.

I have no idea who I ordered it from, I need to start making note of that in my plant list - I've only done it for a few. I can see the color of the style crest clearly in the database pic you shared and I will have a look at mine to see if it's the same. My pics were taken in full sun today so but these were also the first flowers open. The following ones might be better to judge by. I am leaning towards Ruby Red Dress though, the standards look like they have the same wide ruffle mine does. I suppose it's new plant maker will say "presumed to be Ruby Red Dress" lol If I can get a better pic on another day I'll add it to this thread. Thanks everyone!

Cindy, I looked at the database so I can add Ruby Red Dress to my want list. It shows you bought Ruby Red Dress In 2019 from FB and a name of a person.

I look at who has bought the irises I want to (hopefully) see where they bought them from. It gives me an idea where I can start looking to buy them. Most everyone bought RRD from Napa Iris. I sure hope the health of the owners of Napa has improved or that they will open again. With saying that … Does anyone know if Napa has sold their introductions to another vendor? There was a few of their introductions I really wanted. One was Lemon Zing. Lovey dubby Lovey dubby Lovey dubby

Oh, I didn't get it from Napa, I actually never heard of them before (I don't think!). I bought mine off of someone on Facebook. Having checked out the style crests and really looking over the pics, I'm convinced it's Ruby Red Dress. But without a tag next to it I wouldn't put a photo in the database (which I was hoping to do if I found a marker). Thank you!

Cindy ~ Barbara said that you already added your name to Ruby Red Dress in the database. It says you purchased it on Aug 29, 2019 from Lorinda Gentry on Facebook.

That information should be on your plant list as well.

Yes it is, but I lost the tag to the plant in the pic and I had a few it might have been, so I was wondering if anyone had the iris I mentioned so I could compare and eliminate the other iris in the same color spectrum - all the iris I tagged last year faded and I was a dummy who didn't make a map Sighing!

My impression was that the other ones were pretty much eliminated by the discussion here.

If in doubt still, buy another known Ruby Red Dress and plant it near the mystery plant, but with a UV Fade-proof label. That should confirm it. The Brother TZE tape is very fade proof. It fits the newer Brother Ptouch labelmakers.

That's an excellent suggestion and the best thing to do - thanks!
