Is it possible to grow Robust Florist Quality roses in your garden or even in containers in the balcony? My experience with roses is that I've always encountered the kind that looks pretty once bloomed but then after a day or two, the petals would all fall down. I was wondering if it's possible to just grow roses that are just like the ones florists sell on their floral shops.

Roses are not the easiest things to grow. They take certain steps in their care to make them produce nicely.
For the most part they like a lot of direct sunlight. Perhaps as much as 6 hours minimum.
When you grow orchids, it is all about the ROOTS!!!

Look for heirloom roses. Hybrid tea roses are the fussy ones. Try a real garden center/nursery, not a BBS.

It depends on the variety, some of the hybrid teas can take days before the petals fall off.

The florist roses you see for sale are hybrid tea roses. It used to be that the majority of those sold in the US were from Tyler, Texas, but now they are grown in Ecuador and other Central America countries in greenhouses. Hybrid teas produce the strong, long stems you see in florists roses, but they have to be cut back carefully each year to encourage this stem. For the most part Hybrid teas hold their petals better than most other Rose varieties.
As Bill said, roses require a lot of care. They need at least 6 hours of sun, and in your area would probably need more. Roses grown in pots would be more susceptible to winter damage, especially grown on a balcony.Roses are heavy drinkers and eaters, requiring judicious watering and regular fertilization.
I'm not saying it's not possible to do this, just that it would take some work!
If you look at the roses for sale at a florist shop, you will notice they are usually sold in tight bud form. This allows more vase life. When I cut my own roses I always cut them in bud form.
Here are some varieties I think would do well in your area.
Red; Mr. Lincoln, Chrysler Imperial, Olympiad, Opening Night. White; Honor, John F Kennedy, Whisper. Orange; Tropicana, Candelabra. Pink; Queen Elizabeth, although Queen Elisabeth is actually a Grandiflora, Tiffany, First Prize. Coral; Fragrant Cloud, Touch of Class. Bi color; Pristine, Bella'Roma, Double Delight, Peace. Lavender; Angel Face, a grandiflora, Melody Parfumee', a grandiflora. Yellow; Midas Touch, St Patrick, Gold Medal, a grandiflora.
Most, if not all of these roses are older varieties that have stood the test of time. Many are award winners, and many have breathtaking fragrances, evident by some of their names.

I read a very interesting article from David Austin that florist roses need to have thick leathery petals to hold up to shipping, which is inversely proportional to scent, so...the less scent the better that vase life. (David Austin has florist roses sold only to the grower trade.) That said, my grandmother grew only HT from the 50's and 60's and they had good vase life, with fairly good scent. Of course the new owners of my grandmother's home pulled out all of her roses.

How sad. Crying Many of the older HTs have a lovely scent. I don't have a single HT that was hybridized any more recently than around 1985.

I have 4 tree roses that their flowers could be cut, Barbra Streisand, All Dressed up, Neil Diamond, Liv Tyler. Not sure they are hybrid teas or not. But they put out long and straight cane.

Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond are HTs. The other ones probably are, too. Typically tree roses are HTs or grandifloras.

I used to think that but I can't smell them anyway, so what's the point. I can get the general fragrance, but I'm not sticking my nose to smell anything.

I'm not sure what's the difference between grandiflora and hybrid tea, but they put out long canes.

Depends on what source you look up as to what grandifloras are. Botanicas Roses, printed in 2000, says Grandifloras are crosses between HTs and cluster flowered roses such as Floribundas. And Floribundas were a cross between HTs and R. multiflora, a species rose. Confused now?

Hybrid teas typically produce one bloom at the top of each stem and grandifloras produce a cluster of blooms. This is complicated by the countries and companies that don't recognize the grandiflora class and persist in categorizing a rose with clustered blooms as a hybrid tea.

I think in the future if I need to replace a rose tree, i will stick with floribunda's. Makes more sense than constantly cutting canes back that grow tall.
