There's a weird looking thing on the ceiling of my shed it's about 1 inch and half in diameter .

Paper wasps that I'm familiar with build multi-cavity nests over time. They're usually attached with a small diameter thread of nest material. I'm wondering if it's the start of a hornet's nest.
I make it a point to learn something new everyday. I just wish I could remember what it was.

Yes it does look that start of a paper wasp nest when looking at full nests on Google .
They probably abandoned it for some reason
