On my laptop at the top of the screen, in the URL bar (is that what it's called?) there's a little icon showing a padlock with a red line through it and then garden.org/forums/view/sitetalk/

Is that something to do with the site or my laptop? I'm usually pretty observant but I've never noticed the little lock icon before now and wonder if it's something to do with the site or my laptop.

Click on it! Green Grin!
But not sure why yours has a red line though it, mine is just the plain lock.

Googled it.
A slash through the padlock, the https, or the https appearing in red all mean one thing: something's wrong. ... Https, which stands for secure http, is used instead of http to do two things: confirm the identity of the site you're connecting to, and keep your communications with that site secure by encrypting it all".

If you are Firefox it means the "connection between Firefox and the website is either delivered using an insecure protocol ( HTTP) or that it is only partially encrypted because you've manually deactivated mixed content blocking."

I just clicked on it and it says Site not secure. Blinking I'm on Firefox. I don't know how to activate or deactivate anything and I don't know what mixed content blocking means. I'll have to have my husband check it out for me.

I logged off of Firefox and am now using Chrome which shows the normal little black padlock icon. I've gotten so used to using FF over the years that I usually stick with it but will train myself to use chrome and I will definitely ask my husband about FF. Maybe I need to update to a newer version. Shrug! I do seem to get messages popping up every day about updating something or other and I just don't pay attention to them and click on "Later, remind me tomorrow." Maybe I should pay more attention. I wonder how I manually deactivated mixed content blocking? Anyone know how I can correct it?

I just went to my System Preferences and found something that says Enable Location Services but nothing is checked off so I wonder if that's the issue. I hate to start messing with stuff and taking a chance that I'm going to screw it up.

I also see something that says Firewall is turned off and all incoming connections to this computer are allowed and I have no clue what that means. Blinking

I'm not sure what that is or what it means, but I think for you it may mean that you're just connecting over an http:// connection which isn't considered as secure.

When I go to the website, it appears to be over an https:// connection.

In the toolbar where you see http://, can you manually type an s in there, hit enter, and see what happens?

Also, check to see if mozilla does need updated. Big Grin

If typing the s in there works, try bookmarking it with the s (remove your other bookmark if you have one) and see if that fixes it.

My firewall was turned off, hubby turned it on and now I'm back on Firefox and the little lock icon doesn't have the red slash through it; so I'm assuming all is okay. I just got the message about updates available so I think I'll quit ignoring it and allow it to do the update. Green Grin!
