Thread OP
Missouri
My mom has had this plant for years and we have never known what it was. A while back it started to die so I was able to salvage the remaining parts. I tried using a plant identification app, but it couldn't recognize the plant at all.

This plant is grown in a vase full of water and left by a window. It has long skinny leaves that turn purple as they get bigger. It also is vine-like kind of like a typical pathos plant. The bottom leaves also started curling recently and I do not know why.

It may be purple tradescantia and it should be growing in soil instead of water. It also needs more sun.

Hi & welcome! I can't determine from the pics and etiolated condition (stretched from low light) if it is this:
Variegated Oyster Plant (Tradescantia spathacea 'Sitara')
or this:

I agree, a variety of Tradescantia, either T. spathacea or T. pallida but difficult to say which.

Yup. The growing conditions made it look atypical and fool the automatic id type apps. Look at the links and see how different it can be from this. Welcome!
Plant it and they will come.
