My first time blooming seedlings have just begun and it is coinciding with the weather turning quite cool (in the 50s). Only 3 have opened so far but numbers 2 and 3 have keep their bloom for more than one day. In particular, I thought number 2 seemed to be opening two evenings prior to today; it opened fully yesterday and as of 2 pm today looked the same as the day before.

Does anyone know if this will mean they are extended bloomers or do I have to wait to see what they do in warmer temperatures before I make that judgement?

I agree I have blooms lasting 2-3 days when the weather is cool like your 50s early in the season

Pat, for what it's worth, some of my late lates encounter cold weather near the end and some of them take about three days, super long to open fully( 24 hours), and then stay open for 48 hours ... it might just be the cold.

Same here Pat. It is too cold for any blooms to fully open, except for one
that took two days to do so. Only a few even trying. It's a bit early yet due
to lack of rain for a couple of months. Just got some rain last couple of
days. Thank goodness.

Thank you all for your replies. Open evenings and extended bloom are two statistics I didn't even think about until last year when my friend, Janice brought it to my attention that I should be noting down if I had those characteristics in my seedlings. Easy for her to say. She has a very small (beautiful) garden and I have to walk all the way down hill to look again in the evening. (Says the fat lady.)

I thought it was a requirement that all hybridizers have a golf cart!!! Whistling
I don't have one either and by the end of the day that walk down hill seems even longer, because then I have to walk back up hill.
