Hello to All Group hug and thanks for taking the time to share your hints, tips, ideas and especially your favorite (and maybe not) vendors! Being at the age where I no longer 'know it all' I try to avoid the costly (especially on my budget) learning experience! Not quite a year since starting my garden in California's High Desert, I have decided to devote one bed to heirloom irises and have decide to order from Bluebird Haven. This will be only my second order from a grower and I hope it will be better than the first. BTW; the snow peak iris link is broken and I believe they are no longer in business. (Maybe just the internet site). Thank You!

Hi Pat. The Snowpeak link isn't broken -- Dee Stewart (the owner) has taken it down. She lost her husband in the not-too-distant past, and has decided that the business is more than she can handle all by herself. She will continue to sell her own hybrids, on Facebook. I believe she will also continue to sell the Irises that she still has left -- you can send her a c-mail (on Cubits) or a tree-mail on ATP and ask her for the Irises that you're looking for. If she has them, she will get back to you and tell you what they cost.

And BTW -- Welcome!

Actually, Pat is correct. The link in Polly's thread goes to the "Snowpeake" website which no longer exists. By definition, the link is broken because it goes nowhere. Someone needs to go in and edit the post to take the link out (or change the link to her facebook page).

Joyfulirisus, I have an iris question for you. Never had this happen and I've had iris in my garden all my gardening life. Last year here in zone 7b we had a bitter cold winter and I lost a lot of plants I'd had for a long time. Several were iris. The rhizomes remained firm, but never put up growth. I left them, not sure if I should take them up. & reset or just leave them in hopes they were just slow putting up from the hares cold as several things here were. Bu fall I gave up and decided to reset the still firm but growth free rhizomes. I dug them up and they were full of tiny holes on the undersides. I've never had this. What is it? What can I do? Will it spread? Thanks. Donna King.

Hi Donna -- I'm not Joyfulirisus, and I'm not an expert, but those little holes on the underside of a rhizome are where the old roots used to be. All rhizomes have them. And when replanted, the rhizome usually grows new roots and so you never see those little holes. It's not a disease, or anything that you need to worry about -- except for the fact that your rhizomes didn't grow new roots. If they're still firm, then they're still viable. Replant them in a different spot and see what they do!! Good luck!!
