Is this a record? Crazy! A really pretty plant but... Crazy! BTW, 5.5 inch pot.

Yeah, I agree. Where do people get this money? We had brunch this last weekend with some friends that have 2 sons, one the same age as our daughter, 26. The elder one went to MIT and had this 'dream job' at Google designing programs and stuff for them. He was making a jillion dollars. The younger is a web design and that kinda stuff person. He worked for several years of a well known YouTube 'influencer' and also made a lot of $$. But they have both quit those jobs and rejected society as we know it. They are traveling together throughout the USA, no real jobs, staying with friends everywhere they go, working at a job when they need $$, then quitting and moving on when they get bored. They are like a lot of kids their age today who have rejected the notion that they have to slave at a 'real' job day in and day out to earn money, they reject materialism, etc. So the people who are spending all this money on plants must be the other half of that equation.

I'm still trying to figure out why most of my (senior) friends seem to be able to travel and take vacation trips all over the place like two or three times a year. So far I've pinpointed state job pensions and a little inherited money as two factors, none of which i can look forward to. Sighing! If i don't retire until 70 and then don't go on any overseas vacations, i might just get by. Shrug! At least I can putter around with my plants. lol

And then there is this...I redacted this to remove any identifying data re: the seller, but this is just an everyday post on the groups I am in. And someone will probably BUY this

Kraazeee. D'Oh! one node, one leaf, venmo... !
A fool and their money are soon parted.
The people buying these must surely have an addiction and can't stop themselves. Sad

Thanks, I will think of this when I feel bad my kids didn't get dream jobs/dream careers.. And.. maybe the people buying these plants just haven't got to the reject materialism phase yet. Smiling

I told my kids early in their lives to do what made them happy, just so its something that would support their chosen life style because my couch was not it.

Both have Master's degrees. One is an adjunct college professor, personal tutor and aspiring author. The other is a security guard at a fancy gated community. Both are very happy with their life choices and no one is living on my couch (except the dog). Rolling on the floor laughing

Yes, I know. Some people get costly educations handed to them, and never do anything with them. Years ago, my husband had a female resident in his program, this was in the years when it was very difficult for women to land a spot in a program. Its a lot more common now. The residency is 7 years long, the longest residency besides cardiothoracic surgery. She did very well and graduated. She was already married and was pregnant when she graduated. She NEVER PRACTICED. She spent what, 12 years of primary education, 4 years of secondary education, 4 years of medical school and 7 years of residency...that is TWENTY SEVEN years of education and a huge financial investment. And she never practiced as a medical doctor. That in itself is a shame, but, she also took a spot in all those programs that could have gone to a student who really actually wanted the career she eventually walked away from

That sounds like a very personal decision that would be impossible for others to evaluate without "walking in their shoes", metaphorically speaking. Assuming she's still alive, it may be that she will save someone's life in the future because of her training, or she just had an unusually large amount of curiosity that is now satisfied, or it may have made her a much better mom.

I imagine she changed her mind when she had a child. But, it is still a lot of time and money to change one's mind on something like that.

Maybe the people who are now collecting $2,000 monstera cuttings used to collect fur coats or alligator bags or something. So this would be an improvement- as in nurturing something to live rather than causing something to die. One never knows, right?
