There's a nice tree I drive by occasionally, and I was hoping you guys might be able to help identify it based on a description. I didn't pull over to take pictures...

It's currently in bloom and looks quite pretty at the moment. It's a very bushy deciduous tree. It's almost completely covered in flat white flowers. I thiiiink the flowers had four petals each (was driving, so had to look quick). They look like they were maybe around 2 inches across.

I've seen it before with fruits on it that looked like pink cherries with bumps on them.

It also isn't a particularly large tree. I'm not good at estimating size, but it looks like it might be up to 15 feet tall.

Any ideas on something that might match the description? If we have no luck, I might have to go take some pictures. I really like it. Smiling

Edit: I originally accidentally typed "evergreen". The tree is deciduous.

Your description is good! I also thought dogwood as soon as I got to "flat white flowers". The other aspects are also consistent with the suggested ID.

Dogwood was also my first thought from your description! Thumbs up

Flowering Dogwood (Cornus florida) is apparently native to Southern Ontario but at risk:

Another thought was Seven Son Flower (Heptacodium miconioides) but it's not evergreen either.

Whoops, "evergreen" was an error on my part. I meant to say deciduous!
