Hi all!

I planted basil, summer squash, spaghetti squash, and cantaloupe in the jiffy's green house kit, one with the pellets and the other without for the basil during various dates on March. I live in Sacramento California, it went up to 100 degrees during the day AND for some of those days, I left the two trays outside with the lid on. That way I don't have to water as often. But every single one of them never sprouted even a week after their latest sprout dates. HOWEVER, the watermelon I planted on the ground and the summer squash I planted in the 15-in pot sprouted and is growing VERY well. Why did this happen???

Welcome!

The peat pellets are the problem. If you want to use the little greenhouse, plant your seeds in little Dixie cups (with holes poked in the bottom) full of regular potting soil or seed soil. All the seeds you are trying to start do better without a transplant - just start them where you want them to grow.

You are headed for some toasty weather, even Reno is supposed to be 102.

Agree. And if the lid was on, who knows how hot it got in there if/when the sun hit it.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The 2nd best time is now.
