It's been a 'bit' since I've been on over here. I was hoping to get some feedback from those of you that have placed online rose orders (so I have an idea of what I should've expected) - esp if any of you that have used High Country Roses. Thank you ahead of time for reading this War and Peace length post.
The following is the timeline:
4/28/21 Order was placed for 6 roses - 1 qt (5") size pots. I picked a ship date of 5/17/21 as we were on vacation.
5/16/21 A mass email is sent out with owner (?) apologizing "I have not done an effective job managing our outgoing schedule...orders scheduled for the week of May 17th will start shipping on Friday, May 21th" NOTE: I was really impressed with this and had no issues with it.
6/1/21 I sent an email asking for a shipment status
6/2/21 I rec'd a response that they were running a little behind "We are working to get those orders shipped starting this week"
6/10/21 I sent another status email explaining the weather was getting hot and I'd be heading out on
vacation soon - at this point I would need to cancel my order. I rec'd a response back "I apologize I will get those cleaned and shipped out today. You will receive a tracking number from UPS when it is shipped. Please let me know if this is ok."
6/11/21 After I saw the response - I said again to please cancel my order, I'd look to maybe placing an order early fall. The next day (6/12/21) I sent another email requesting confirmation of my cancellation. No response
6/15/21 Yup...you guessed it - my order arrived. I'm leaving Sat for a week's vacation, mind you. I sent an email stating my frustration to include concerns over size of a few of the roses...and still have not heard back from anyone. Grumbling

I'm including a pic of the roses I took after I unpacked them. Cost was $17.95 each. Please let me know if any of you have ordered from them before and what your thoughts are on the sizes of the ones to the left in cell pic below. I still need to check roots to see what they look like. Although I've ordered plants online for a couple of decades this was my first time ordering roses so I thought best to check with y'all to see what the 'norm' is. Thank you again!!

“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!”

After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish, and hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!”

Honestly I think they look pretty good. Those small ones look bigger than the ones I got from there.

I also think they look fine, especially the taller two. I received four roses from High Country this spring, and they met my expectations for size. Their roses are smaller, but also much cheaper, than bare root roses. Of course, that means it will take a couple of years for them to get fully established, but that's fine with me, as I have so many other mature ones in the garden.

I've never received shipped plants that looked so good. We buy fairly often from High Country Roses, but we don't have to have them shipped, of course. I understand part of your concern is the size. Since I tend to do better with establishing smaller plants than with larger ones anyway, I can't comment much there. The communication breakdown is too bad, though Sad I hope they do well for you!

And that's why I came over 'here' to ask since I wasn't sure what the norm was that most received. Thank you all SO much!! I will be grateful for what I received then!! Appreciate your feedback!!

I had some communication issues this year but I understand that it's a small family run business having visited it many times while in Colorado. I'm amazed they can do it all! I also just wanted to know what they had for my ship date since I couldn't recall giving them 1. The plants all Were small, but have great root system and put on size very quickly. I have a little tiny sweet chariot but it had good roots so I expect it will grow as well as all of the others.. I love this nursery.I'm sure if you have any issues with your roses they will make it right.

I ordered some roses from High Country Roses and was very pleased. The Post Office in Colorado shipped my roses to Guam by mistake and they arrived much later than expected. One of the roses was DOA; it was replaced by the company.

I received 5 healthy but small roses 2 years ago All we're doing well till I had a fence installed and three died. My fault not High Country Roses. Have moved Tamara several times and Oh Happy Day remains in the pot she was originally transplanted into. Both are healthy and thriving.

I ordered five from them last year. All were way smaller than yours. And they exceeded my expectations on growth wise over a year's time. Actually between my order from high country and Burlington. Both were an order of five roses. Burlington only one made it over winter. High Country all five are still thriving. Although I do not blame Burlington whatsoever for the death of the four roses. But my Burlington order all the roses were larger and more established than my HCR order. But again all the HCR roses are still thriving.

This is my second year ordering from High Country and wow their roses often really take off! I did have issues getting mine last year, but with Covid, that was expected. All of mine from last year are bigger than my bareroot rose DA from this year...they grew that much! And, we had terrible rose growing weather last year...over cast and cloudy until July, and several roses did not actually bloom last year...but they put on growth! This year my new ones are looking to put on almost as much growth if not more.

I ordered several times form them last yr. Didn't get around to it this yr. They sold out of so much so fast! I imagine they are pretty well inundated with orders. The plants I got were all wonderful! Yours look as good and some even better than what I got. They all take off nicely and do very well. Personally, I would give them some slack. This last yr or so has been tough for everybody with the Covid and lockdowns and stuff... How are they doing now?

Beth please refer to my previous responses to other posters. Also please note that I stated in my original post that I'd admittedly had not ordered roses before and so was looking to you all for guidance and feedback as to what was the norm. I came here to gather that info versus automatically posting reviews. I had also posted the same question in my local area group which I requested be taken down once I started hearing from you all so I believe 'slack' was given.
