This little "weed" is cropping up everywhere. I pull them before they pass 4 or 5 inches. The stem is hairy and there are two round leaves down below. Location is Evanston, Illinois. Please identify, someone! Many thanks for all efforts.


These are still popping up everywhere around our garden.
Thought I'd try again with a bigger sample (four inches). The two odd shaped basal leaves show better in these photos.
The stems are furry and the underside veins are also furry (modestly). Any ideas anyone?

I'm not sure what plant that is but I'll move this over to the Plant Identification Forum where it will get more views and a possible ID.

It's Siberian elm, I'm pretty sure. They are very invasive around Chicago area.

Siberian elm seedlings have alternate leaves, not opposite leaves.
