A couple of pictures I took yesterday. Northern Mockingbird in a Palm Tree and a Juvenile Northern Cardinal up on the roof: ![]() ![]() There have been lots of juvenile/immature birds around lately. Yesterday the little Cardinal in the above photo was on the ground beneath a tree and I thought maybe it had fallen out of a nest because it would flutter a bit and land in another spot on the ground. After a couple of hours it was still beneath a tree in the yard and I walked over and it flew low over to a shrub and then about fifteen minutes later it took wing and landed on the roof, then flew to a nearby tree. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the young Brown-headed Cowbird below survived the day. It was sitting in the lawn all day yesterday; I'm not sure if it was a nestling that had been booted from the nest by a sibling or if it fell out of a nest or what but it didn't seem to be able to fly at all; it would run across the lawn when I was out there but I never saw it gain altitude enough to even make it to a shrub much less a tree. Late yesterday afternoon/early evening I looked around and it was gone so hopefully it did finally spread those wings and take off ... sure hope a predator didn't get it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |

Lin, beautiful birds and photos. I took this photo from my bedroom, I opened the window when I saw the Clark's Nutcracker come to the tree, they are very tame, and if you talk to them they will answer you which is what this one was doing when I snapped the shot. ![]() Clark's Nutcracker ![]() I now have a thread for my bird photos on Blue Gardens, if you would like to check them out, here is the link. http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... Photos of my area can be found here. http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... Finally one for my flowers, just started with my Amaryllis. http://cubits.org/bluegardens/... Next I will start one for my animal photos, all were Sharon's suggestion. ![]() |

My goodness that is a LOT of Grakles!! I've seen more of them this year than ever before but never so many in one spot like that. Great shot ... looks like they are all just hanging out enjoying that pretty sky! It was really windy here over the weekend and COLD! I was out on the deck shivering (dressed in t-shirt and shorts with no shoes) so most of these shots aren't in the best of focus. ![]() This Blue Jay that was wanting to get to a feeder containing peanuts but I was standing right on the deck and he wasn't so sure with me being so close but he finally did make it to the hanging basket that was holding peanuts: ![]() ![]() ![]() And, a little Warbler that was visiting a feeder: ![]() ![]() ![]() ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |

Thanks Margaret; I was standing on the deck about 5 or 6 feet from the shrubbery he was perched in. He was watching me intently, probably wishing I'd go inside so he could get to the feeder or the hanging basket that the peanuts were in. ~ Playing in the dirt is my therapy ... and I'm in therapy a lot! ~ |
