I posted a kind of tutorial a while back dealing with how to make a rhyzome clip. That did have a few positive comments but I don't remember it being widely received or widely commented on.
If there seems to be interest, I have another tutorial to produce if you all think that is worthwhile posting.

Is there any interest in knowing how to make pot clips for hanging smaller orchid pots, or any pot for that matter, up in the growing area?? I use them to hang 2 1/2" pots all the way up to 4" pots. I hang plants off of larger hanging plants, say a big 6-8" pot. I use them to hang smaller plants in the shade of bigger plants thereby increasing the number of plants within your growing area.
I also use these clips or hangers to hang smaller plants from a vertical wall in the growing area. For example, say you have a wooden lattice wall in the lanai or porch. These pot hangers would allow you to fill up what might otherwise be dead space within your growing area.
I make these clips from rolled wire and two pairs of pliers. I make small ones for 2, 2 1/2 and 3" pots. They will hold either clay or plastic pots. I make some that are of a thicker gauge wire for 4 and 4 1/2" pots. Again either clay or plastic.
They are easy to make, they are adjustable and last forever. Any interest??

Again, they are available in large sizes and come wrapped in packs of three or five. With my method, a roll of galvanized #14 wire, you could make anywhere from 6-8 dozen pot hangers at least. They are reusable!!!

Oh, I used to buy them years ago, they did work well. The ones I had had longer hooks, I imagine one could make them any length.

Goodness, I hope that you can see these and read everything. With a slightly heavier gauge wire, I make clips or hangers for 4 and 5 inch pots. I go to a 15" piece of wire to start and make and 3" wide rim section and legs that are like 5 and 7" long.
Here is how they should fit on a pot.
And remember, practice makes perfect.

Bill, you need to make a You Tube video. My son made one, it was supposed to just be something for a friend but in it my son looks like a famous rock star (who I have never heard of) and his friend posted it online as a joke. Now my son has so many views he gets ads and every time someone buys something from the ads Will gets a tiny cut but last year he had to file taxes on the $3,000 he made from it. It is crazy, you should go for it.

I see the value in it but I am not interested in money. I just carefully select where and when I want to share knowledge. Not to mention if its as simple as 1, 2, 3 to make a video, rest assured I'll screw it up.

Maybe if I was much much younger, or trying to make my business better known, I might but this old dog just wants to lie here in the shade, reflect on friendships here and now as well as dear friends and family lost. I am just so content just being content.
No deadlines, no schedules, no worries.

Years ago money may have motivated me more but not now.
It is sharing info, making new friends, and just relaxing and watching my two boys raise families, that what moves me now.

Plus the more $$$$ I make, the more the government wants from me!!!!

Bill, this looks really good! Once I go back inside in September, this should come in handy.
We were in Pennsy with son and grandson visiting, had a fun day! Since I get barely 2 bars on our devices at our place, not conducive for a quick check, I didn't really look at all on-line until we got back to Fair Lawn.

Bill, you've created another keeper! I really appreciate how clearly and simply you have laid everything out. Photos of tools are very helpful for me! This would make a great orchid society "work day project". One suggestion for your next tutorial -- add your name in a consistent spot on each sheet of paper. I believe that credit should be given where it is due, and this really deserves credit! Smiling

Credit me if you like. I appreciate it but that is just not me. I have been doing it that way for years. Pleasure is in the doing. Putting my name on everything I do honestly never occurs to me.
But helping people grow better plants is what matters most. Plus I have a tremendous desire to share information.

Plus I had this Epiphany when I left NYC 13 years ago. Gone is the craziness, gone is the pressure, it has been replaced by calm contentment.

Great tutorial, Bill.

I usually use 14 gauge wire for smaller pots because it is easier to bend or cut.

You can also straighten the coil of wire by clamping one end of the coil to a solid post outside then carefully uncoiling it like a giant slinky. Put the free end in a drill and slowly start the drill while pulling on the wire. After a few seconds the slinky of wire will suddenly straighten out. You can now cut the 50 foot length into 6 foot lengths so you can store it until you need to make the plant clips, pot hangers, S hooks, or whatever you need.

Be sure to wear eye protection in case the wire snaps while you are pulling on it.
