Yeah that Clown-Pants cross is delectable. I fell in love with that seedling, too, looks like it has go-faster racing-stripes along it.
But, I knew right away I was not even in with a snowflake's chance in you-know-where.

One idea comes to mind - crowdfunding.
If a few people come together and form a conglomerate of interested buyers then they can boost their bidding potential and split the seeds between them (1 or 2 each!). Might be crazy, but it might also have potential.

gardenglory said:yea, the undefinable sdlgs are really the big winners, of course its two or three people doing 90 percent of the bidding on those, and 100 percent of the winning. The seeds I want are the one with a clown pants sdlg. Its already up to 200 tho so thats not happening. I have a feeling it wont be to many years that there is going to be a glut of them to pick from.

That's the three bid $200 one? Woooooooah doggy

I believe the same cross sold, if we are looking at same auction, this weekend for 325, so its got a ways to go.

Now selling are sculpted striped/variegated ones. Everything in a blender.

Both parents are ones where you are not sure if you love them or hate them. I have yet to decide. But they are quite oddly fascinating.

Just my opinion but those two should have been put in the compost pile. Not even close to their parents looks but maybe their kids will straighten out and be nice. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I felt the same until I saw them open in the seedling field. To each his/her own, but I think they are striking.

I should point out I do not know you, and my post is not an advert for your seeds. Thanks for responding to defend your babies.

Ouch!
Thanks for thinking of me Orion. A lot going on there, but they are interesting.
Actually I have both Explosion in the Paint Factory and Wacky Wednesday and made some crosses. We'll see what happens with those. I was trying to cut back this year... nearly 1000 cross tags floating in the breeze. There will be some hard choices to make come planting time without my adding more from the LA! That doesn't mean I won't be looking.... Smiling

Don't worry, Orion. I don't think anybody could look at this as an advert.

Oh, I don't know…I like it! I like the weird ones and am particularly fond of anything with stripes. I would want one of those…as they say, no accounting for taste!

Fair warning to Steve... as the crazy person (Franklinandpenn on the LA) who bought these, I'm expecting these seeds to help me lose weight and regrow hair!

On an unrelated note, if anyone is looking for a medical test subject, my rate is $609 Hilarious!

No last laughing here, but I am smiling…lol.

Dan, thank you for a very entertaining morning, and for the bids. I believe I like cristate even more now. I am keeping the other set from this cross, so we can compare note in a year or two. If we are both slimmer then hurray for us! Welcome BTW!

I've been boring my wife for the past couple years with talk about how, broken colors, stripes, teeth, and cristate tissue on daylilies is "cool." This cross checked every box of my "cool" list, and I am insanely excited to see the first blooms!

And yes, Steve we should definitely compare notes on this cross!
