As our weather warms up, Oscularia caulescens has started to show its cute pink little blooms. Blooms start to open up once temps starts going 68 to 70 F. Then closes again as night time cooler temps sets in.

I got this plant last Feb 2012. It has flourished well in its container.

It has been moved in our plant database under the name of Lampranthus deltoides. But I still like to call it as Oscularia caulescens, that was the name it has on its tag when I got it. Smiling

Rolling my eyes. Taxonomy .... lumpers and splitters .... all the name changing drives me nuts.
In the end, only kindness matters.

Sheryl, I have mixed feelings about it, yes its confusing but if its based on gene science, then its a good idea, since often plants were lumped together that don't have any genetic relationship to one another...yet it is frustrating having to relearn names and species Blinking

Yeah - although from what I'm told, it's really more a "fashion" thing; whether or not plants are lumped together or split into separate species is often more to do with what is popular rather than science. At least that's what I was told at the local botanical gardens. >shrugs< Ah well, I guess there's worse things to worry about, huh? Whistling

I know little about it, I guess I was hoping science was involved, since the lack of genetic science is how things got messy in the first place..."Oh that looks like this one, guess they're cousins" Hilarious!

Hate to dash your hopes to the ground and stomp on them, lol - but... I'm sure it is better than it was, it just isn't a totally clear science, I guess.

Just another photo of the same plant, now with more visible blooms. And the center of the bloom opens up further too.

My aeonium arboreum has various looks through the seasons.

This is its current look, photo taken 11 Mar 2013

On closer look, at one of the tallest stems, there is some new growth in between the leaves: could it be finally forming some flowering buds?

I have never seen my aeonium do any flowers before, though I have seen aeoniums in some areas do that..Hoping it will..on the other hand, I hope it does not mean the plant is stepping on to a final dying phase if indeed it is a bloom in the making. Rolling my eyes.
