If this isn't just some kind of prank to see who is watching pics added to the DB, there's been a crime and I want to file a report that nobody has told me, and that I don't have any. Truly a plant crime is in progress.

Secretly, I'm still waiting for it to grow legs and take off.

It does look like a fireball. It reminds of my burning bush in the fall, all bright red leaves.

Bassia scoparia is a plant in the amaranth family. Here it is considered a weed. It is an annual that initially grows green leaves and stems, but at the end of its lifecycle it turns red and dies.

I actually was thinking it looked like "Kochia," a plant that I grew a few times many years ago... I think the color in the photo may have been enhanced a bit, though.

Kochia is considered a noxious weed here. Highly invasive, not native, and very problematic in agricultural fields.
I think the original photo has been color enhanced or otherwise manipulated.

The pic could be enhanced but the pic at the Hitachi park link shows an entire field of plants turning very red. If it's a weed somewhere, there's a 99.9% chance I'll never get any to grow if I tried unless I could convince it I don't want it. Nobody panic, I'm not trying to find any. There are too many other plants on my to-kill, I mean to-buy list.

Yes this is correct. In the 80-90's it was sold everywhere in Garden Centres as Kochia. Burning Bush. I myself grew them for many years but have not seen them for some time. Perhaps seed catalogues will have them. I would love to grow it again. The leaves are thin and soft. The cool fall weather and less daylight trigger the color change. It is an annual here in Canada.
