Baldcypress cones

Taxodium distichum, or Baldcypress, is a deciduous conifer (drops all needles every autumn). Unusual cones. A majestic tree---one of my favorites.

Excellent banner Laurie!
Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed.

Thanks Rj and Virginia. I don't know my bird ID very well. Are those bitterns? Neat shot!

I love the aromatic scent of the cones, as well as their complex design, which is more easily seen in the fall, when they're mature. I really enjoyed seeing this banner of them. Thumbs up

Laurie, I think the birds are green herons. Just a guess.
