What's new @ your house?

My husband was @ a client's house and noticed she had a lot of potted plants. He commented about our porch looking similar with so many pots and the lady asked him did I have this one, or that one? He said I don't remember seeing those on my porch so she gave him these 2 plants to bring to me. One of the most gorgeous Marantas I've ever seen and dragonfruit she said she started from seed. DH said there were several pots of much bigger dragonfruits that were much older and she said she had been looking for a home for the new little pot. Super unexpected excitement! I've killed more than my share of Marantas before but never started with such a beautiful specimen.

Lucky you! Beautiful plants; I've not had much luck with maranta either but maybe this time you'll have success after starting with a gift plant. Smiling

Maybe you'd be pleasantly surprised. I know I was! ...and suspect he may notice new plants more than I think.

Got a new haworthia and will get an ornamental sweet potato vine, but that's about it really.

Those sound like good ones to have. I've killed most of the Haworthias I got back in 2013 but the one that's still alive is so fun to have around. I think it looks optimistic in the way the little tips are so upright.

IME with SPV brought inside to escape frost, they're prone to spider mites & whiteflies, but these critters don't seem to be able to kill it if it's getting enough sun, and it's so attractive to them that they don't move to other plants. Where you are, this should be hardy in the ground, but if/when there is a frost, it won't stay evergreen.

What I should be concentrating on is pots. More NON-fugly pots would be better additions @ my house than more plants.

I love that maranta! Apparently, it is a bit difficult to find right now as it has become popular.
Keep calm... and plant something.

Me too! They all look alike to me, until they are next to each other, then it looks like each one is different from all others.

The beauty of a pot does not matter to me as long as it can grow something.

Oh yeah, I'll use them too, but I would prefer pots that enhance the plants, not detract from their act. And except for the biggest sizes, the attractive pots are usually much heavier and don't tip over as easily as plastic. It's good to have goals?

Well, I just use plants to beautify milk cartons. Smiling

My big beef-- pots too narrow at the base and the plant keeps blowing over. Hate that!!! Why aren't more pots just slightly tapered?

My plumeria need to be surrounded at the base of the pot by concrete block because they keep blowing over in the slightest breeze. It is seriously annoying.

Sally, I think I remember reading that the taper has something to do with the mechanics of better drainage. Probably costs less to produce, too.

Pots are critically important to me; I consider it an insult to a beautiful plant to house it in ugly. Not a fan of plastic, and black pots suck up heat here. I'm always on the lookout for nice ones at yard sales, estate sales, etc. New ceramic in pots at nurseries are mighty pricey, but some are mouthwateringly gorgeous. But I'm talking about garden planters, not temporary seed-starting containers.

Thumb of 2021-09-18/NMoasis/507f47

For me, gardening is really just an excuse for playing in the dirt. Admittedly, plants are a satisfying by-product.

yes it is!! For me it is my coffee plant. It has to come in for winter so I can't handle it in ceramic.

I have a few that are mostly ok but rounded near the bottom and then a small flat base, like a 12 inch pot with just 6 inches of flat circle. That's just stupid Thumbs down

This is exciting! Saw Adeniums @ L's yesterday and after 15 mins of serious investigation & deliberation, I got this one. The blooms are about finished but I love them! It was not possible to know what the other blooms would look like although I would have preferred to get one of the shorter plants. I don't usually spend that much on a plant but I don't want to try to wait and see if any go on clearance and might then be too unhealthy to bother.

I've been wanting one of these Begonias for months but they were $20 each. Until yesterday, when they were $5 because they were wilted. By this morning, they are perked up again.
