First time I've encountered this plant, I literally thought someone put plastic(!) weed in the forest as a joke. It's extremely hard and sharp, pierces the hand at the light touch. Height ~70cm. I've seen a few bunches in the nearby forest (south of France), dozen meters from each other.

Agree...Ruscus sp.....common name here is Butchers broom.

I agree, that plant looks like"Butchers Broom" and there may be more than one type that grows in France but compare to Butcher's Broom (Ruscus aculeatus)
