I have an NYC apartment full of flourishing plants but I can't seem to keep an aralia alive. My first one lasted several months and was killed almost instantly from an accidental overwatering by my husband. The 2nd aralia I got was shipped to me but alas, it proceeded to die a little bit every day upon arrival until it lost all of its leaves. I guess I am a glutton for punishment because I bought another one. I just love this plant and want to keep it alive!
This 3rd aralia was shipped to me as well. The leaves and stems seem sturdy enough; none fell after it arrived or when the pot was given a gentle shake. Having said that, there does seem to be an issue with some of the leaves. Some have dark/rusty looking spots or yellowish spots and some of the leaves have holes. There was also a white caste on some of the leaves (hard water or maybe oil? I detected a scent of neem). I can't see any webs or pests, but I made a solution (2 drops of mild soap in a dish of water) and I carefully wiped each leaf.
I've left it in the grower pot it came in. It's in the living room of my NYC apartment which gets bright indirect sun from western facing windows. During the summer the sun is VERY strong in the afternoon, but not so much Fall through Spring. Should I leave it on the window sill or a few feet away on some shelving I have near the windows? Should I perhaps place it on a tray of pebbles and water for humidity as well? The temp is pretty consistently 70F. See all photos, I'm open to suggestions for this aralia, thank you so much.
