I would like to know what plant is depicted in this painting from Cologne in the 1500s. It is situated at the far bottom left corner, right next to a foot. There are a couple more shrubs along the bottom edge of the panel, if they could be identified too it would be fantastic.

You can find a high quality image on the London National Gallery's website. The painting is called 'The Deposition' by the Master of the Saint Bartholomew Altarpiece.

looks like henbane.

henbane looks like a good match, and fits the mood of the painting. That's the same site that came up for me.
